Really stupid. So the NCAA expects 19-23 year old kids to be able to take over the complete caregiving and have a schedule and list of exactly what they will be providing? How do you schedule and list emotional support, which is what these kids will be supplying. I'm not naive to the fact the some of these hardship waivers are just an excuse to transfer and be eligible right away, but as long as medical documentation is provided its not the NCAA'S place to determine the level and value of support the student athlete is providing for his family member.
As far as the legislative waiver granted for players being run off, how many AD'S will be willing to put it in writing they ran a kid off, in fear a paper trail will be developed that will possibly hurt recruiting in the future.
Just speculation on my part but the waiver request for Thiam may very well fall under this rule. New Mexico State played 12 kids 12+mpg last year. According to verbal commits last time I looked they were still 1 scholarship over the limit even without Thiam. Was he run off? Who knows, but on paper it sure looks like its a possibility. If that's the case what if their AD refuses to put it in writing? Who do you think the NCAA will side with? And the kid gets screwed.

Kids should be able to transfer and play immediately...just as easily as coaches get new jobs and are able to coach immediately.

The NCAA needs to find an equitable solution that allows players to transfer while still walking the fine line of not creating hired guns. I wish I had a plan or a solution, but I don't - it is above my pay grade. That is for smarter people than me to figure out.
I think part of the solution has to start with the players themselves, including those people who are advising them (whether it is a family member or coach). everyone dreams of being the star player at a major school in a power conference. Nice work if you can get it. What most of these kids don't realize is that they are the current "flavor of the month" and that their coach will look to recruit over them and run them off, or at least bury them deep on the bench.
Unless you have a realistic chance to make the NBA, sometimes it is better to be a big Fish in a little pond. Think of all the players Coach Cluess has brought in because players grabbed for the gold ring when the brass ring was the better choice.

Travis Atson (3 Star recruit), an RS Soph this past season, is no longer with the team at Quinnipiac. This should hurt their depth.

I wasn't disappointed Iona didn't land him. When I heard about his Iona visit ... I was u=not unhappy either. But in fairness, he was coming back from ACL surgery. He may never be the player he was or he could be more productive if he has fully recovered.

I wasn't disappointed Iona didn't land him. I know Iona recruited him, he chose Tulsa, then transferred to Quinny. Saw him play last year, I was not impressed.

Some transfer speculation from Jaden... FYI, the Cleveland St coach was fired yesterday. Saw that earlier. Interesting player. He's a 6'2'' guard, who averaged 5+ rpg his first 2 years, as well as 40+ steals each season. He also averaged 13.1ppg and 15.4ppg. The negative is he really hasn't shot very well, shooting 39% and 25% from three over 2 seasons. Is he a fit with all of the guard depth? Also looking for a waiver to play right away. I know the NCAA is supposed to determine waivers on a individual basis, but would they actually approve 3 waivers for Iona players? Honestly, rather have Washington's and Thiam's waivers approved.
