Friend of mine suggested we might play St. John's this year. Sounds unlikely to me. Anyone hear rumors? Would be strange after the Cluess to SJU stuff, but there might be something to what you heard. I saw this tweet today by Iona recruit AJ McNeil that he sent to a JUCO PF who just committed to SJU. Sounds like there might be a game scheduled.

While I was probably in attendance when Mulcahy (1974) and the HAC (forget the date) opened, I don't remember whom we played. But my guess is that with this renovation, our home opener will be significant. SJU, Fordham and Manhattan come to mind. Just a feeling.

Just a feeling. we are not opening with a league game, you are better than that do you really think st johns would help us open a "new' building? so out of the 3 maybe fordham, but since we haven't played in how long, never bet when a streak will end so maybe a 5% chance of any of these

Maybe we can sucker Auburn into a return to the Iona Campus in memory of that '77 game in which they were behind at the half 62 - 19 (give or take a few points). Final - Iona 105 - Auburn 82.

1970, you're probably correct. But I think that we'll try to open with a 'special' game. As far as MAAC games go, we're back to a 20 game League sked with two December games. And we usually have so few home games, who knows when our first home game will be.

Sounds impossible but maybe just maybe seton hall and all the ex Ionians will throw iona a bone and open the new arena. Someone would have to remind Willard he once coached there. Unlikely but a thought.

I think msg controls the matchup of the holiday festival, maybe after the Cluess St. John’s courtship they think this is an interesting matchup and an appealing draw. They try to make this a winnable game for St. John’s yet somewhat of an attractive matchup, and I believe the attendance for the previous matchup was more than many of the last several holiday festivals.

How about reopening with one of the ooc opponents they played when the Mulcahy Center opened in '74-'75... SFNY, SFPA, Buffalo, LIU, UMass or Drexel?
Since we can't get a game in the annual Classic, how about some of that Valvano Foundation money scholarship an incoming, cancer surviving, freshman at Iona, Bucknell, Rutgers and NC State?

Army is a realistic opponent to open the new facility ! Original MAAC member .

dan, Army wouldn't be my first choice, but I think you could make a case that it would be considered 'special'.

Any word who the Maac team going to Ireland next year? I doubt it will be us. Dec(6-8) Only team mentioned so far is St. Bonaventure. Spend all that money to go to Ireland to play St. Bonaventure, nah. Rumor has it, Canisius is the Maac representative this year. St. Bonaventure, San Diego, University of Illinois Chicago (uic), Florida Atlantic, Binghamton, Mercer and Loyola MD. The other interesting rumor has the venue changing from Belfast to Boca Raton. Brexit complication?

Brexit complication? It seems so. Brexit seems to be forcing that event to Florida. St. Bonnie is a very solid program, so I’d do a H/H with them any time. Mercer is typically pretty good as well. Binghamton would be an easy trip for a H/H and likely an easy win. The rest don’t make much sense unless you’re playing one of them for recruiting purposes.

Not 100% sure, but believe these are our OOC opponents so far. If anyone has other info feel free to fill in. vs Kennesaw State (A-Sun Challenge, Orlando) vs Stetson (A-Sun Challenge, Orlando) Ohio (?) Yale (?) Know there has also been talk about hosting an exempt tournament at HAC over the holidays, but don’t believe anything is confirmed yet. A-Sun games 11/22, 11/23. The Ohio game should be at home, I think we are done with Yale. The Christmas classic is supposed to be dec 4 & 5 in New Ro, but these things always fall through due to lack of intre$t from other teams. So, bumping this to confirm that so far all we know for sure are the ASun challenge games on 11/22-23?
