Time to play the "what if" game. What if Cluess DID go to St. John's? Consider the following:
1. How would St. John's media and fans handled Tim's health status? The "undisclosed illness" thing would not fly. And remember that Tim would not have had the equity he has here; that fan base likely wouldn't care that he is not healthy, they would feel their admins blew the hire by bringing in someone who's "too old" for big time hoops.
2. Who would be our coach? Would we have been able to lure Jared back after such a short time away? I am not sure of that. Jared's stock is already quickly rising and even if Tim were to announce that he will retire at the end of this season, it wouldn't make sense for Jared to come back at that point. But back in April/May? Maybe.
3. If not Jared, then who? Eaton wouldn't have been ready quite yet, and Arnold is only in this spot now because he has to be. I don't think Arnold has done badly at all. If Tim announces he's not coming back next year, how comfortable is everyone with giving Arnold the reigns? Might be too early to say--would rather have him under Tim's wing for another year at least.

We would know exactly what was wrong with him (even though I am sure some here do know that). I hope Coach Cluess is going to be OK but if he is very sick we may be in a better position had he left, for the same reasoning St. John's would be screwed. It almost feels like St. John's screwed us in the end, we thought we had one on them and then Coach Cluess gets sick. Again hope his prognosis is optimistic but the timing of this raises a lot of what/if thoughts, especially not knowing what is truly going on with Coach Cluess's health. As for Grasso personally I don't think he would have taken the Iona job back in the Spring and he won't if we need him after this season. His next step is likely major college basketball. One personal comment on this season, I can't get off work on the 17th (Princeton) and I'm traveling during the Colorado game, my next game is 1/3. For me it feels like we aren't in college basketball season. Iona needs to be scheduling next year now, we can not have this few OOC games, its unacceptable.

As much as I can’t stand SJU, #1 is an unfair statement. We have no way of telling how their fans or admins would have handled Tim’s situation or how much compassion they would have showed. Re: #2, I think we could’ve gotten Jared back for this season, particularly with the talent we have on this year’s roster and the fact that it would put him closer to his family. Pure speculation on my part though. Re: #3, if not Jared I would’ve still handed the keys to Arnold, except hopefully with a longer and more structured transition plan.

Speculation on Coach Cluess' health is despicable. It's "undisclosed'' for a reason, and that reason is it's about him and his family and no one else's business. Show some respect for him and his family.

They don't give who, because they want to keep it private from the 12 knuckleheads on here but some expect a press release to the whole world about coach smh

Not one person speculated about Tim's health today. Take a chill pill, boys.

Not one person speculated about Tim's health today. Take a chill pill, boys. Exactly, The question was How would St. John's fans n' media respond to the absence of Coach Cluess, if he was hired there? There has been nothing but support for Tim from the Iona faithful. I don't think he would get that support from the Fans in Queens. In retrospect, St. John's decision to hire the Arkansas coach may have worked out best for Iona, St. John's and Coach Cluess.

I think mostly everyone on this board has been very supportive of Tim,the kinds words and prayers have been plentiful,we all need to respect each other’s privacy, but as far as speculation I think this only is normal and none of it is malicious. So lets all hope and pray the recovery goes well, and God willing we see Tim on the bench at some time this year.

Fewest games played so far across all of D-1: Iona 5 St Peter's 6 Siena 7 Marist 7 Northern Arizona 7
Yup, Iona's played the fewest games, but our MAAC brethren haven't done much better. Now, I don't know how many those other guys are playing, but how many can they possible be getting in before New Year's?

I realize Iona did a bad job this year, but the MAAC in general is struggling to get games, particularly at home.
