Can't thank Tim Cluess or Jared Grasso enough. What a tremendous job they did to keep Iona at the very top. I will always root for them.
Looking forward (and I hope we don't have to), just for conversation, other than Jared Grasso (it would be great to get him back), how about looking at Tim O'Toole (Pitt), Tim Welsh (ESPN), Bobby Walsh (IMG Academy) or someone else who has Iona roots? Regarding the hiring process, Matt would definitely have to establish a search committee and I have to believe it would include Jim Hynes, Dr. Nyre, Robert LaPenta, Dave Brown, Linda Bruno and other trustees. Just my thoughts.

Losing Cluess sucks if it becomes official. If not Grasso i expect there to be a solid pool of candidates. After the shock I believe Iona will be fine, plenty of talent returning, and quite frankly don't see any of the top 7 kids returning transferring anywhere as they are either seniors or kids who already sat out a year. Cluess, Grasso and Iona will be fine.
Let's hope the assistant coaches impacted will land on their feet. Don't see any of them going to SJU with Cluess. These guys didn't make the big money so I can't imagine the amount of stress they are under at the moment.

How crazy is it that we might lose coach Cluess after his "worst" season (record-wise anyway) at Iona?

How crazy is it that we might lose coach Cluess after his "worst" season (record-wise anyway) at Iona? but his best job, showed he could coach a different style and keep on winning If he doesn't turn the team around this year he doesn't get the St. johns job but I think Willard leaves for greener pastures after next year and he would get the Seton hall job, so this is delaying the process likely just 1 year. The question is would we be more likely to get Grasso after two years at Bryant vs one, who knows and maybe there is someone even better out there who could be interested. However no matter who we hire you simply can't find a coach who is better at winning the Maac tourney and really that is what matters most, Cluess will be missed, but maybe the next coach will be the one who eventually gets us an NCAA win.

Thanks Tim for creating Iona basketball’s version of The Golden Age of Rome. God bless you and your family. You and yours will always be in the Iona family. I hope you win 20, go the Tourney and win games every year.

Think I have only posted once or twice here. I’ve been reading this board since Tim Cluess was named Iona’s coach. I’m a 1983 Iona Grad and my 2 oldest boys went to St Mary’s High School so I was well aware of Tim’s success and I also lived in Floral Park up till a few years ago. I hope Tim stays, but if he goes to SJU, all the best as he has earned it. While folks believe Pat L. took a chance, he did picked a winner and winners win no matter the level. Archbishop Stepinac coach Patrick Massaroni is Cluess 30 years ago. He grew up in White Plains and while he graduated from Marist, his grandfather, Daniel McLaughlin was an Iona College graduate.

gaelfan83, one of my VG friends was a neighbor of TC in Floral Park, and for a while he was the Mayor of FP. He died four years ago and I ran into TC at his funeral. My friend always spoke highly of TC, as a person and as a coach.

Congrats to Coach Cluess, at age 60 his shot to make the big bucks is now. He will never reach those financial numbers at IONA. As far as his replacement, Go with Mike Lonergan. A guaranteed winner. Iona would continue to stay on top of the Maac.

M87 is the first photographed black hole 55 million light years away. M88 could be on North Ave, in New Rochelle.
