I’d be OK with that.

This makes no sense to me. Sounds like a wild guess.

They have a new facility that blows ours away. Which they managed to build with a tiny reported endowment of $38MM. Sponsorship from UPMC appears to have been a big help.

Decent program for the MAAC but no natural rival. Adding a school in the metropolitan area is preferable. Wagner? Sacred Heart? Those programs would be lifted by joining the MAAC and would eventually lift tbe conference. Won't happen but Hofstra, Stony Brook or Fordham would be great.

Travel for ALL sports should be a consideration.

RMU is perfect for the MAAC. Expand the footprint a bit, add Western PA as a more consistent recruiting base, and welcome a pretty consistently solid hoops program moving into a brand new on-campus arena. Plus, it’s an easy bus trip for Canisius and Niagara, both of whom are currently on an island of sorts.
You don’t want to expand too far west, but Detroit Mercy, too, would be an outstanding option if Marist ever gets its wish and gets a Patriot League invite. They, too, are a pretty easy trip for CC and NU in the Great Lakes region.

There weren't any MAAC programs close to any types of penalties

Sharkey, hate to hear this, since one of my closest friends is a Detroit grad. Not everyone knows this but Detroit is a Jesuit school, and six kids from my graduating class (55) at Iona Prep went to UD, most for Engineering. All were recruited/influenced by a Dr. Morrisey, who was a dentist, and had a son at the Prep. His practice and residence was located on North Avenue, between the College and Wykagyl CC.

Detroit Mercy , ironically used to be a regular on the Iona BB schedule in the seventies (Earl Cureton,John Long, Terry Duerod & Tyler all NBAers). There would be no benefit to expand the conference further west than PA. My personal opinion would hope for Marist to leave so we can pick up more competitive programs like Sacred heart or Wagner as NCgaelfan stated in his post.

I hear the AD’s are against RMU coming into the MAAC for geographic and other concerns - and that Ensor wants it and is lobbying the presidents. I haven’t heard Nyre speak against RMU but I have heard him speak in favor or being more strategic and identifying institutions to cultivate in the tristate region. I think Ensor is trying for a vote in June. Why add another school at this point? Seems to cause even more problems with scheduling.

Legacy and tradition aside, if the MAAC were starting from scratch this is how it should be structured:
3 NY Metro Teams (NYC, Westchester, LI) 2 Upstate NY Teams (No Buffalo) 2 CT Teams 2 NJ Teams 1 Philly Team
Something like this:
Drexel Fairfield Iona Manhattan Monmouth Marist Rider Sacred Heart Stony Brook Siena
