Anyone have any idea as to how much the Arrigioni challenge has raised to date? The college just doesn’t promote that campaign from what I can see. Nor do they promote the Iona Forever campaign. No regular or even periodic updates on either. Strange way to promote fundraising campaigns.

Guy, thanks. Do you interpret an alumni game to be varsity vs. alums or alums vs. alums?

If you go on Saturday, I suspect you'll get some sort of update. And they weren't going to sit and tell you the finances every week, like showing you pictures every week. If people see money coming in, they'll be like "good, they don't need mine." This isn't a GoFundMe on Facebook, looking for a few bucks to send a kids' team to Disney.

If we do a Gofundme will the team go to Disney?

Disagree on fundraising reporting philosophy. No need for weekly updates for sure. "Regular" updates keep it in front of new and repeat donors--incredibly important.

What I’m talking about is the regular and focused communication that normally accompanies major fundraising campaigns by a not-for-profit. I’ve been involved with many such campaigns. What we are seeing with Iona’s is not reflective of best practices for communication for a campaign like this. I hope they finally start a push on Saturday.

Why do you guys think it's important to have regular financial updates?

Why do you guys think it's important to have regular financial updates? Regular communication is essential to a successful fundraising campaign. Those communications should be widely available (“push” communications directed toward known past and potential donors), should also include social media updates, and if possible the campaign should try to generate interest in the traditional and blog media. The communications should “tell the story” by talking about the overall objectives, and crucially provide regular updates about the progress that is being made. You need to generate excitement about the progress that has been made to date, and reference what can be done with additional financial support. If support is lagging, the campaign has to find a way to address that. If the campaign is going well financially, then you talk about what more can be done as support grows. The overall point is that without communication like this it is very hard to build fundraising momentum and general excitement, beyond a few selected “deep pocket” donors.

I don't necessarily agree with everything above, but that's neither here nor there. The point I've tried to make is that I suspect the focus for now was ensuring the building was going to be ready by now (meaning on time). Now that the building's been upgraded, I do agree that a more aggressive push should occur, because now Iona can show what's been done already and talk about what's left to do as you are saying. That's what I suspect you'll see this more aggressive push start on Saturday.
