I'm in Atlantic City for the week for my daughter's dance nationals. Caesar's is nice, and a short Boardwalk walk down to Boardwalk Hall. Depending on when you'd stay, very affordable. Cheap as hell during week, reasonable Fri, ripoff Saturday but I wouldnt stay that night. (Remember tourney goes Tues Sat now)
Anyway, thought I'd give the report. I have not looked into the other hotels, though I know Bally's next to Caesars is not as nice, kinda run down. Have not looked at Tropicana, which I believe is right next to the Hall.

Guy, thanks. Bottom line, how does AC rank with the other sites that have hosted the tourney? And I realize that you're there in June and not in March. And for my own family history, my parents, in the twenties, spent their honeymoon in AC.

And for my own family history, my parents, in the twenties, spent their honeymoon in AC. Well, Caesars is an upgrade over any hotel in Albany, for sure. However, the only advantages of being here in March over June are better rates and more sports to bet on. Pray for mild temps.

Idk how many of you went to the game in AC this past year, but the arena itself was pretty lousy, with seats from the 80s it felt like. But as long as they have beer ill watch basketball anywhere.

Ac will be a dud, but the worst thing about it is it resulted in losing the Monday night slot on espn, which was a huge mistake, and is the final step in the Maac being a low major. Iona should try to move to something like the CAA.

Mostly the Monday night slot thing.

AC venue is quite large. It’s going to look empty.

Right now, even Albany is a dud, so who cares? I'm against it being on anyone's home court,(though you could argue Albany was Iona's home court), so I don't mind the AC choice in that regard, in fact other than trying to put it as close to New York city as possible, which is where I think it belongs, then AC is the best long distance destination choice. However I think a deal breaker was leaving the Monday night time slot. You simply can't get better publicity for the league than that spot, and you can't select anywhere that can't give the Maac this spot. You can't measure this publicity in revenue and that is why just choosing by money was a mistake. Expecting to hear that the Maac championship game is on ESPN3 or +, and that would be the last straw in needing to oust Ensor. Even if it makes its way to ESPNU, the competition for attention that Saturday is ridiculous, the Maac will barely be a blip on the radar. How the Maac AD's let this happen I have no idea!

I have attended games at Boardwalk Hall in AC, and it’s much better than Springfield or Albany (when Siena isn’t playing). It’s by no means flashy or a destination city, but it serves a good purpose for this type of event. The Atlantic 10 had its tournament there maybe 10 years ago, and it was fine. Also, they’ve more recently been hosting triple-headers that have done okay.
Long term, my preference is to move the tournament to the renovated Nassau Colosseum. The capacity has been taken down, and the concourses and overall ambiance is light years better than previously. Not ideal in terms of it being LI, but the facility fits the MAAC’s needs pretty well and could help with recruiting.
