We haven’t played a game yet and have to see if this squad has a cohesive team chemistry.
My question:
When we look back after the season is over, how will this squad compare to the 1998 team. Equal? Better? Below?
Curious to hear your predictions.

Below. Far below. The 98 team had a 40 RPI. This team will have to go 24-5 just to top 100.

This is definitely the best team since last season. They haven't played a game yet.😄

On paper this is the best team I can remember in my lifetime. Of course who the hell knows what’s going to happen once the ball is in the air.

Appears to be the deepest team I can remember since the 80's, especially from a size/height perspective. Definitely a better match-up roster with the major conferences in an NCAA Tournament game.

Let’s just play ball & take one game at a time. We haven’t begun yet & you’re already talking potentially being one of the best teams. I jjust don’t want to set expectations high. Still a lot of newcomers & we don’t even know what chemistry will be like...

“We need to focus on one thing only IONA BASKETBALL” One game at a time people! We can’t overlook anyone. No cupcakes wins guaranteed. Don’t take any team lightly.

Agree you’re right just don’t want to hype this team But your right in that we need to see this team actually play a real game before we should start comparing them to some of the great Iona teams of the past. Things look good on paper but you just never know.

For me it's about we we start the season. We are all used to seeing Cluess teams--even the very good ones--struggle a bit out of the gate as the new guys get acclimated and Cluess figures out rotations. By February, we're used to seeing improved defense and more fluid offense, along with a shorter rotation overall.
With so many guys returning, though, I do not expect us to start as slowly. There will still be a hiccup or two, because there are soooo many players who look like they could give us minutes and we just know not all of them will, and it takes time to figure that out. But defensively, I expect us to not start as slowly.
Side note: this is also why I think Perez will see more minutes earlier in the season as I noted in the other thread. History has shown most Iona newbies take a little bit of time to figure things out, so why not go to a veteran of the system a bit more early on. That's what I suspect will happen, anyway.
