Does Coach C finally have his prototypical basketball squad? As I have read in the past, Coach likes to field a team of basketball players – all able to stretch the floor and most interchangeable. Further, this may be the most athletic team on Cluess’ watch. They play above the rim, they run the floor, can stretch the floor; and they are at least 9 deep. I can make an argument that our best basketball player, EJ, ranks in the lower half in athleticism. One of our walk-ons, Michael Ortale, has shown outstanding athleticism in his HS videos. But how smart are they? Are they willing to sublimate ego, and develop as a team? I want to see this group sustain the style of basketball for 40 minutes that our 2012 team was only able to maintain for 20 minutes against BYU before hitting the wall. I am sure looking forward to seeing this team develop, and measure their cohesion in OOC especially against the likes of Princeton, UNCONN, and Colorado.

Maybe, maybe, maybe going to be a different type of Cluess team. Three or five bigs who can/should contribute. Two bigs on the floor often maybe. I hope Cluess at least tries that, sees how that goes.

Wasn't it Nolan Richardson, when he was the Arkansas coach, who referred to his team's play as, "40 minutes of hell". I'd like to see this team to take on a similar mentality.

We’ll have to account for the standard number of injuries, so 9 deep might not be the case for most of the year. Players please do the strength and conditioning and get your flu shots - got mine at the drug store Thursday night.

Cluess fears getting key players in foul trouble no matter how deep he is, and playing an aggressive, pressing defense for long stages opens you up to those kinds of fouls. So, agree I'd like to see us press/trap a bit more, but I would not expect us to do it for huge stretches.
