Don't think shooting percentages will tell us anything about our defense. This is a team that we dominate in size, speed and athleticism. If we can't play defense against them we can't play defense against D1 teams. Even if we hold the percentages down, doesn't tell us anything about D1 defense. This game is probably more about correct floor spacing, recognizing defenses and offenses and reacting properly. The game will also tell us what kinks we have to iron out in our new home, be it the scoreboards, lighting or audio or crowd movement and control. Respectfully disagree re defenses. If we can't shut these guys down, we're looking at another year starting out 300+ in defensive efficiency. That does not translate to wins.

They did it last year 2nd half and most of the same guys are here. So if the defense doesn't play well off the bat, these guys are just out of shape/lazy.

Well, I agree, though newer guys do have to learn the system. Given that we have a larger returning core than most Cluess seasons, I expect better defense out of the gate.

I expect bumps along the way in our first game. Defense will probably be better, but a lot of players are coming off prior years of playing little, or JUCO ball.
Ross - Sat out last year so will be rusty.
Thiam/IW - Played limitedly last year so will be rusty in game environment. Also, both players will try to prove something and showcase their talent which will lead to mistakes. Not saying it will happen a lot but mistakes will occur.
McNeil/Van Eyck/Cashaw - JUCO players who played at a slower rate last year. It will take some games to adjust to the pace of the game at D1 and structure of TC.
Gist/Crawford/Agee/Perez/Rist/Nikolic - All have experience and will be ready. It will be more teaching and getting used to each other playing together.
Weiss/Ortale Jr. - All new and have no experience. They will be nervous as it will be their 1st college experience.
Defensively, we will be sloppy for a period, but eventually get it together. Don't know much about the opponent, but can say that we will probably score a ton as that is our MO.
Prediction: WE WILL!!!

My point is that even if we shut them down it doesn't say anything about how we will do defensively against D1 teams.

This is an exhibition game. No more - no less... A chance to improve team chemistry, one step beyond scrimmage and two steps beyond practice. All the talent in the world is meaningless if this group does not learn to play together and be unselfish... Hoping we see the start of something real good in that regard.

No idea if Mount St. Vincent has a talented team this season but I remember 20-something years ago they beat a Hofstra team that later beat Iona. MSV lost that season to junior college Elizabeth Seton. Point being, there's a reason you play the games; no guaranteed wins.
