Lot’s of our weaknesses exposed: 1. Three point shooting is nowhere as good as in previous years. 2. Gist dribbles way too much in pg position. 3.We don’t use the weave the way we used to. This always made the other team play defense. 4. Agee has to be more careful with outlet passes. Too many intercepted for turnovers. 5. Not making the one extra pass for good looks.
Positives: 1. First half defense was best in a long time for Iona. 2. Agee and Crawford can compete on any level. 3. If Washington can improve his outside shooting, he will be a real threat.
Bottom line: We got smoked by a team with much better talent.

Pretty negative. Down 1 at half, down 10 with 5 to play. Without our head coach.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

All really good points,I agree with everything you said,we will be fine come league play.
Didn’t mean to paint a negative picture. Agree we had a great effort , especially without Coach Cluess.. Hope it’s a learning experience we can use in conference play..

#2 about Gist dribbling too much is spot on.
The second half started with 4 guys standing around watching 1 guy dribbling with the ball. What the hell was that?
Hope Arnold's comment about TC coming back soon was fact and not just a passing remark.

If and when Tim comes back these kids will run through walls for him,we will be a force in league play,it starts with beating Princeton on the 17th.
The first thing this fella Arnold has to learn is when to call a timeout. The start of the second half he should have seen the momentum shift after the first two minutes. I question if Gist is a real PG... looks like Jelly will fill this role the remainder off the season.
Tidbits: 1. Guy's info from the presser that TC will be returning soon is the best news by far. 2. We shot 21% from deep and Canisius, the only other MAAC team to play shot 6% (1-16). I'm wondering if the change pushing the 3pt line back, is a big factor. 3. I know we were only down one at the half, but UCONN shot nearly 60% in the first half. 4. UCONN is a really, really good team. And in spurts we showed that we could play with them. Now we just have to expand those spurts. Still don't know who our best five is, but, imo, there is a lot of talent. Jelly is a big part of that talent, but has to learn how to run the offense. 5. Danny Hurley is a good coach, but it seems that he complains about every call that goes against his team. Much more than other coaches. 6. Doesn't seem that there is any flow to the offense. Players are open but seem reluctant to shoot from deep. And that often leads to the shot clock running down and a forced shot, to beat the buzzer. 7. We miss Ricky McGill because of his PG play. When/if, we get better at the PG position, we'll be a force in League play. 8. Read that Ben wasn't dressed, but I also didn't see McNeill or Cashaw. Were they on the bench? 9. I'll close the way I started. TC's health status was the best news of the night.

Pretty sure I saw both McNeil and Cashaw on the bench, but Arnold didn't play them. Will be interesting to see how they fit in as the season goes on. There was plenty of talk on the board of McNeil starting, yet he has only played 8 minutes this season. His JUCO stats show him to be a very good 3pt shooter, which this team really needs. Have to believe he is struggling in practice as to why he can't get any PT. Cashaw also put up great JUCO numbers. I wonder if the speculation he is going to redshirt this season is true. Maybe he was recruited as a backup plan in case IW didn't get his waiver? Not sure how I feel about him being a redshirt this season when both IW and Gist will be back next season ahead of him. Cashaw shot 28-58 from three last season with a great A/TO ratio, two areas Iona is struggling with. Wouldn't mind see the staff give him a shot if those struggles continue.
I don't get everyone's whining about PG. Not since Machado have we had that one guy who always handles the ball, it's always multiple ball handlers in this offense. In fact, that's how and why the system works.
Jelly is getting better. He didn't shoot well last night, but few did. I do agree we need more assists and better ball movement in general, but the real issue is the 3-point shooting. I don't think the extra distance matters, as other teams are shooting them just fine. But, quite simply, making 3s at a better clip make MANY other problems less noticeable--and right now, we aren't making them. Now, UConn is a different monster defensively and is in fact far better on defense than any team we've seen and any team we'll see the rest of the way, including Colorado. With that in mind, again outside of the 3s I though our offense was't bad. And we had a good game plan to feed our 2 best players in the first half--and UConn made great adjustments to take those 2 options away in the second. Other guys are going to have to step up and step into their roles.
I59, UConn shot nearly 60% in the first half, but that number was skewed by the first few minutes. I think after the SECOND media timeout they were around 75%. So Iona defended better after that, and that's when we got back into the game. In the second half, UConn scored more points because they got to the line far more; I think we were worn down a bit.
Happy to see Risto and Nik back. Going to Nik was a good option, but he just wasn't quick enough to stay with Carlton. That said, the MAAC has no one like Carlton. He is the precise kind of player that kills our system on both ends of the floor, and it's why we consistently do very well in the MAAC but consistently don't fare well against Big State U.
I feel like many of you are frustrated, but I came away pretty darn encouraged after last night. We did some really good things defensively, and that's again considering we really had no answer for one of their players (Carlton). This bodes VERY well for MAAC play--and I think when all is said and done this year, this will be the best defensive team Iona's had this decade. As for the O, I think we just need to start making 3s. Maybe this team will be a bit different offensively this year even if/when Cluess returns--with our defense, we may grind a little more and rely on inside scoring and driving to the basket rather than bombing away. We won't have the spurtability of other Cluess teams, but with a more reliable defense we should still be quite successful in the MAAC.
Let's go out and beat Princeton. That's a winnable game against a bad team, plain and simple. Colorado is a throwaway game; the Buffs are one of the top offensive teams in the country and even our improved defense won't slow them down. Then, we'll settle into MAAC play--hopefully with Cluess back at the helm--and get back to business. The MAAC is filled with teams that have shown promise but just aren't very good, outside of Rider. We'll pile up wins.

Yes Cashaw and Mcneil were on the bench.
I'm more of a skeptic than you on Cluess, love it to be true but Arnold could just be giving the reporter an answer he was told to say if they asked.
I did notice that Risto was heavily bandaged in the shoulder area, but thought he looked okay in limited minutes. And speaking of PG play, while not on Machado's level, I thought that Ricky was a good PG, and our offense was pretty good over his four years, even though he didn't play much as a frosh.
