I did notice that Risto was heavily bandaged in the shoulder area, but thought he looked okay in limited minutes. And speaking of PG play, while not on Machado's level, I thought that Ricky was a good PG, and our offense was pretty good over his four years, even though he didn't play much as a frosh. P.S. Put me on the Encouraged list. As for Risto it was great to see him, I think he can have a big role somewhere down the line. I was skeptical about his return and I was wrong so hopefully we will see the same with Cluess. I was also encouraged with much of what I saw, it looked like what we have seen the last several years with Iona in December, a team that has the potential to be much better by March. The difference this year is will Cluess be there to do his magic? The team is noticeably hesitant to take open 3's, you never saw this with Cluess running the show. Arnold may be helping the D some, but as for offensively, we really miss Cluess.

Some great takes on both sides. Put me on the encouraged list. Thought we had an opportunity to steal this one, but early 2nd half proved me wrong. Still I saw some improvement all around. Even without the three's the offense was OK. I still believe the 3's will come around and when they do we will be real dangerous.

Here's the full quote from Arnold: “Coach is dealing with a medical issue right now. I talk to him quite often. He’s good-spirited right now. I think he’ll be back soon.”

Don't have much on this one, -We had no answer for their big. -I've seen enough already to know that we aren't a three point shooting team this year. -The first half effort yesterday would be enough to beat any Maac team. -Risto was taped up, but seemed like he got called for a travel everytime he put the ball on the floor. -Somebody complained about EJ's lack of arc on his three pointers, Risto's are the exact opposites, his 3's are rainbows.

Last year, after our first 8 games, Iona was shooting only 30% from 3 as a team. I'm sure many of us assumed that just wasn't gonna be our thing. We ended up shooting 35% as a team overall, which means we probably shot 37-38% the rest of the way. Don't be so quick to assume we just can't do it. We're not far off where we were last year after 8 games, and we're fewer games in.

Last year, if I remember correctly, and that's a big if, when it came to 3pt shooting, I thought we'd be okay. My opinion was largely based on the play and potential of Ben Perez. And naturally that included Ben's 50 point effort in the 2018 Maroon-Gold scrimmage. This year I'm not as sure, even though Van Eyck and Thiam (plus McNeill) gave me reason to be excited about the "three". Jury is still out.

We’ll be fine. We won’t face a team this good until the first round of the NCAA tournament!

We are a very good team. Just getting the kinks out. That first half was awesome. Once the Washington gets a good roll here and there he’s going to be fun to watch.

A couple of thoughts on the game:
1) Agee is a beast and will be a matchup problem going forward in the MAAC. Same thing with Crawford as well.
2) Gist and IW I think played really well considering our gameplan. IW didn't shoot the ball well but was extremely aggressive going to the hole and seems to have his confidence back. Gist did a good job with the ball. I agree that he might dribble the ball too much at points, but he's making a lot better decisions with his shot selection IMO. He made some crafty layups around the hole and is actually driving the ball again instead of just launching 3's which will help in the long run.
3) Van Eyck was irrelevant in the game. Looked to be out of sync, but that happens.
4) Thiam was a pleasant surprise. Looked more aggressive and better on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, I think he played better around the hoop.
5) Risto and Nic were very rusty. Risto played some good defense at points, but seemed to be a little out of shape. Also, looked to be playing through an injury. Nik is a liability on defense. Seemed to be out of place at times and against Carlton was overmatched. In all honesty, I prefer Risto playing over Nik.
6) Gameplan in first half was very strong. We slowed the game down with the zone and on the offensive side. We played through crawford and Agee who both were in a lot of iso formations. We went to the hoop consistently and only shot 8 3's. I like that formula right now as we haven't demonstrated an ability to shoot the 3.
7) 2nd half wise, we didn't make the necessary adjustments to stay in the game. We changed our gameplan as well and allowed UCONN to speed up the game. They started trapping and forcing us into shots which we didn't do a good job with. They also scored 20 points in the first 5 minutes of the half.
Overall, I'm actually happy with the result. of course I want to win, but a lot of positives from the game. Defensively we were solid for the 1st half and at parts of the 2nd half. Offensively, we went inside a lot instead of launching 3's and I think this game gave several players some confidence back.
Looking forward to princeton and Colorado to see if we can build on this game. Princeton IMO will be a win while Colorado won't be.
Also, let's not forget that Arnold has been showing improvements on the coaching side. He made some good decisions yesterday with subs.
TC get better
