Gist, Crawford , Agee NO D- FENSE let’s go out n find some ballers who have it in their game.
Funny, but those same 3 guys led us to a title last year.
Also, our defense statistically is similar to last year (though it was far better down the stretch). It's our OFFENSE that has dropped off like a stone.
If you're going to be a negative prick out here, at least bring facts. Because your act is getting tiring.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.
If cluess can return this year it needs to be at a home game with the students back. The electricity in the building for that could be one of the all time memorable home games in Iona history!
That could def get the team rolling. That would be SPECIAL as DICKIE V says. Hope he comes back soon crossing fingers 🤞 On a side note building will be packed & noisy w Gael fans any way we have recruits in attendance ? Just sayin’ take advantage of a rockin’ Hynes Center!
Without Coach Cluess this year, I think it is a consensus based upon what we have seen on the court, that this is a throwaway year. As a matter of fact if I was offered a healthy Coach Cluess, with a retooled and reloaded roster for next year, I would be ok with a 20 loss season this year. The only problem is if Coach Cluess misses the rest of this season, which seems likely to me, There are no guarantees we get a roster for next year or get Tim back, ready to go full speed. AD Glovaski may be put in a really tough spot. i'm sure decisions he doesn't want to think about. I think the nightmare scenario would be no Coach Cluess this year, another incompetent scheduling/recruiting off season and a possible stand in/assistant starting next year. I hope things fall into place, otherwise Matt is going to be in a tough spot.

Hopefully, by now, he has already developed options for multiple scenarios. New president may be in a tougher spot.
My concern is recruiting. Not knowing the HC situation, but it seems that we'll have to be very lucky to bring in "difference makers" this late in the recruiting process.
Patience. My expectation is that Coach Cluess fully understands his situation, it's impact on the program and would not leave Iona and the program hanging. I envision that sooner rather than later there will be conversations between the interested parties to plan a path forward. Coach Cluess stated his situation is not life threatening. Coach Cluess has worked tirelessly to build this program and I fully expect he would not just let it deteriorate and walk away. Additionally, he has come across as a realist who faces reality straight on and one who has his priorities straight. Have trust in him and faith that things will improve. Remember it is just a game.

Agree that its just a game, compared to real life and someone's health. "I envision that sooner rather than later there will be conversations between the interested parties to plan a path forward." That was the reason for my post. Be prepared, be ahead of the curve. I don't think anyone could ever be prepared for losing our head coach, but now is the time to get proactive and get ready for the many scenarios that could unfold in the next 12 months.
Not sure what plan can be developed to move forward. So far Iona did all they can do by elevating the DOBO to assistant coach. Other than possibly picking a date where it would be best to have Arnold finish the year as coach if Cluess isn't back by then, what other options are there? Quite frankly, with 3 MAAC losses already, with a few more losses over the next couple weeks it might be the point where Cluess just sits the year and just concentrates on recruiting and comes back fresh next year with hopefully a rebuilt roster.
Cluess is a great coach but how realistic is it that he comes back and the team just starts winning? It's just not that easy. Being HC is lots of stress and work. Obviously whatever Cluess is dealing with is serious. Just take the year and get healthy. As far as the future if Cluess returns next year...great news. If he decides it's time to move on then Iona will then have to search for a new HC. Iona would be a attractive job. Again just don't see what plan Iona can put in place moving forward until Cluess is healthy and decides on his future

Exactly, your last sentence. "I don't see what plan Iona can put in place moving forward until Cluess is healthy and decides on his future." An unknown date for sure. That is where the burden will fall on the AD or School president to be ready for any scenario. Very difficult, I would assume it would mean setting some internal deadlines. I don't think it would be wise to start next year's schedule without a head coach again. PS if Coach Cluess returns this year, things will work themselves out, even if we don't win. The future will be bright.

Well Iona just answered the question if next year's OOC schedule is being worked on. That's a good sign. Yes, I do believe Iona is out recruiting lots of kids, but will be difficult to get commitments from top recruits until the health and coaching future of Cluess is resolved. More concerned with recruiting than the OOC schedule. The '20 recruiting cycle will be huge, both in size as well as importance in keeping Iona at the top of the MAAC.
Have to replace: Agee Crawford Thiam Nikolic Perez McNeil?? open scholarship
Possible Grad transfers: Gist Ross
Returning?? Risto Cashaw Van Eyck IW
Probably looking at 7 open scholarships, likely 8-9. Scary.

4 games were decided by coaching, you really don't think we win against LaSalle, Princeton and the 2 league home games with CLuess? i could throw in Ohio, so yes we can just start winning if Cluess has time to turn team around, we are not that far away, especially in the MAAC

Of course I believe that the record would be much better if Cluess was here for the entire season. Point is being here for the entire season. Arnold said he found out about a week before the exhibition game that he would be taking over. Safe to say Cluess missed some practice time before that while being diagnosed and dealing with health issues?? That's probably three weeks of practice time and the exhibition game he missed prior to the season. We all wish Cluess was back for MAAC play, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. IF Cluess came back this weekend that's close to 3 months away from team. I think we need to be realistic IF he returns on how quickly he can turn things around. Cluess is a great coach but not a miracle worker. Just don't think it's realistic the team "just starts winning" if/when he returns. Cluess will have his hands full trying to get this team back to playing Iona basketball. Let's not forget Iona started 2-9 last season and 5-6 in the MAAC before Cluess was able to turn things around
