Well Iona just answered the question if next year's OOC schedule is being worked on. That's a good sign. Yes, I do believe Iona is out recruiting lots of kids, but will be difficult to get commitments from top recruits until the health and coaching future of Cluess is resolved. More concerned with recruiting than the OOC schedule. The '20 recruiting cycle will be huge, both in size as well as importance in keeping Iona at the top of the MAAC. Have to replace: Agee Crawford Thiam Nikolic Perez McNeil?? open scholarship Possible Grad transfers: Gist Ross Returning?? Risto Cashaw Van Eyck IW Probably looking at 7 open scholarships, likely 8-9. Scary. i see Van Eyck, Ross and Cashaw coming back Will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I see IW returning because he has nowhere to go. Will not get a 2nd waiver. Not sold on Van Eyck returning if he continues to ride the bench. Either way a completely new roster next season.

Terrified to see what the 20' recruiting class shapes up to be. 7-8 new faces. Oh lord please don't go the international route. It's played out. How can any player want to come to IC not knowing the HC'ing situation & uncertainty. Lets be frank. Could be a 2 year rebuilding project. Just sayin'

Almost have to go primarily with Juco transfers who can step right in a contribute.

Exactly, your last sentence. "I don't see what plan Iona can put in place moving forward until Cluess is healthy and decides on his future." An unknown date for sure. That is where the burden will fall on the AD or School president to be ready for any scenario. Very difficult, I would assume it would mean setting some internal deadlines. I don't think it would be wise to start next year's schedule without a head coach again. PS if Coach Cluess returns this year, things will work themselves out, even if we don't win. The future will be bright. Well Iona just answered the question if next year's OOC schedule is being worked on. That's a good sign. There is not 1 player there that I would say is an absolute guarantee to come back, especially if Tim's status is uncertain.

I see a ton of griping and moaning and worry about the future, but the fact is 10 programs in the MAAC would kill to be us. This program has to have equity among the fans right now--you just can't simply expect to always win, no questions asked. As fans of a cyclical industry/world such as college hoops, you have to be in awe of what Iona's done this decade. If we have this year and another lean year or two after that, I understand it and am OK with it. I am guessing some of you aren't, but, well, you're spoiled.
The roster is going to go through a major overhaul, regardless of whether Tim returns. We simply have no idea how any of this will pan out, but some of you guys already sound prepared to off yourselves if Iona doesn't continue its world domination. Be realistic, gentlemen.

Yes, I do understand that we as fans have been spoiled with the teams success. On the flip side, I do see the concern from some of our older, dedicated fans like 59 and old-timer. I don't think they would be on board to casually throw a few seasons away. This is all speculation. For all we know, the coaching staff has already located some high level players to join the program next season.

4 games were decided by coaching, you really don't think we win against LaSalle, Princeton and the 2 league home games with CLuess? i could throw in Ohio, so yes we can just start winning if Cluess has time to turn team around, we are not that far away, especially in the MAAC Of course I believe that the record would be much better if Cluess was here for the entire season. Point is being here for the entire season. Arnold said he found out about a week before the exhibition game that he would be taking over. Safe to say Cluess missed some practice time before that while being diagnosed and dealing with health issues?? That's probably three weeks of practice time and the exhibition game he missed prior to the season. We all wish Cluess was back for MAAC play, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. IF Cluess came back this weekend that's close to 3 months away from team. I think we need to be realistic IF he returns on how quickly he can turn things around. Cluess is a great coach but not a miracle worker. Just don't think it's realistic the team "just starts winning" if/when he returns. Cluess will have his hands full trying to get this team back to playing Iona basketball. Let's not forget Iona started 2-9 last season and 5-6 in the MAAC before Cluess was able to turn things around U missed the point. If he comes back the maac sucks , he doesn't have to make them better to improve the record, his in game coaching would get us wins while he tries to get us to play better

It's fair. Two OT games that we lost, two home games where we made bonehead plays late and lost. Cluess isn't a miracle worker but I think we get those 4 games with him and we are 7-4 instead of 3-8.

Seems more and more and more clear that Cluess is the difference between winning and losing. I hold out hope that he comes back this season. His health is of course the main concern.

Wouldnt be surprised if Asante Gist transfers as a grad student. Of course , that would be a big big blow for next season. We could be looking at a whole new complete roster. Geez.

Maybe the first recruit should be an assistant who will be groomed to take the helm a few years from now. A la good old times

Guy: Absolutely agree no question we could very easily be 7-4.But the reality is we aren't.The Princeton OT game we had in the bag. Lasalle OT game we should've won as well. St. Peter's & Niagara not just awful but characterize more as atrocious in those last 30 seconds. Four games we let slip away. But even w/o Timmy with Coach Arnold our interim at the helm , we still should've been victorious NO EXCUSES. You gotta fight to the end & that's something this team lacks. Must learn to play a FULL 40 minutes.
