lfballonhoops.blogspot.com/Speaking about diversity I am still wondering why IONA would hire a HS Assistant Coach as a Assistant College Coach? I have never ever seen this. I have seen HS Assistants hired as Managers, Adm Assistants, Video Coordinators, and even DOBO's. But never as a Full-time Assistant on a level as high as the MAAC. This is not a knock on the person hired as much is it a question about thoughts of a head coach to fill a position on his staff with a qualified person of color which we know most D1 programs have. Just makes you wonder!

It's a piece of crap blog. Even if this clown praised the hire I wouldn't put any stock into it.
What makes more sense--being a video coordinator or something and "graduating" to the 3rd assistant's chair, or being the #2 guy at one of the premiere HS programs in the country and well known and AAU circles, then moving into the 3rd assistant's job?
Garee Bryant is EXACTLY what Iona needed for their 3rd assistant spot.

Only TC's opinion matters & if Bryant is good enough for him, he's good enough for the job. Period.
Besides, Bryant probably could've held the position of a HS head coach someplace else, but choose to remain at one of the top HS programs in the country. Very weak argument IMO.

At the get together at MOs a couple of weeks ago I got a chance to speak to Garee about Westchester basketball and some individual players. My take is from his AAU coaching and contacts is that he knows a lot of people and players. And personally he is an impressive young man.
With Grosso and Garee's contacts in the AAU area Iona should be well-positioned to attract some quality players going forward.
All told Cluess has put together a very capable and experienced staff so it would not surprise me if Iona has some special accomplishments over the next year or so.

Old Coach, I also spoke with Garee at Mo's and again at the HOF dinner. He is a thoughtful young man who has given up the security of a tenured teaching position to risk the possibility of someday becoming a D1 head coach. He certainly has had broad experience and has made numerous contacts. He is very focused on insuring that the kids graduate. Blogs are the dark side of the internet and allow many cowards to degrade others anonymously and with impunity.

Garee knows the game. Garee knows the people. He's well educated and has a good personality. What more does anyone want? He was Cimino"s choice at Mout Vernon ant TC's choice at Iona. That as good as you get!
