Rugby. Iona listed 23rd. Well deserved after winning the "Beast of the East" two years running. The Empire conference is stacked with 11 teams, including Syracuse, St. Bonnie, Rutgers & Army. The boys won their first two games Binghamton 28-10 & Buffalo 40-13. Iona ruggers are growing in numbers as this proud club team has grown close to 40 players. Their home tailgating is feeding the other teams. It's an impressive sight to see more than 100 players and Iona rugby alumi breaking bread after the battle on the field. Iona has had 4 very successful years and the future looks strong for this Iona tradition (35 + yrs) with coach Fife.

The boys crossed the river to take on Rutgers. They came back with another "W". Iona 50 Rutgers 26. This coming wked is" Home Coming." Iona will be on the field for a 3 o'clock game on Saturday. The Iona Rugby family sends it's thoughts & prayers to Brother Durning. Brother Durning often would be leaning on the fence watching the our rugby games, than join the parents and players in the aftergame Tailgating.

Homecoming. S.R.O. crowd, sunny& mid 70's. Iona Ruggers defeated the larger USMM acadamy 31-12. These Iona guys, although smaller in size than recent Iona Rugby teams, pay like PitBulls. Once they smell a weakness thay just wear you down. The boys are sitting in 2nd place in the D1 AA Empire Conference. They travel up to Army next Friday night to take on the 1st place cadets. Today it was a huge tailgate gathering, and players from both teams enjoyed the feast. GO IONA!!!

Saturday, 4/27. A beautiful sunny day (70 ish) for a great game of rugby. Columbia University came up to North Ave and took on Iona. Iona 46 Columbia 28. A note of Thanks to the great fan support and Iona Bag-pippers. Iona looks good, they recently added a freshman who's 6"4'. Next saturday they host the Iona rugby alumni in a game. This game is a toss-up. Some of the alumni have continue to play at a high level. The game begins around 2 o' clock. Take in some sun, and watch a competitve rugby match.
