If you guys had to pick an All Time Iona All Star Team, Name your first and second team choices. I don't care about overall careers, just pick the team you would have loved to see play together for one year.

Only players since late 80s (when I started at Iona) worthy of consideration are Kirksay and Burtt Jr. I'll let the older fans address the 50s teams and the late 70s/early 80s teams.

First Team
C- Ruland F- Gary Springer Sr. F- Sean Green G- Steve Burtt G - Rory Grimes
Second Team C- Bobby Coleman F- Tariq Kirksay F. Tony Hargraves G- Steve Burtt Jr. G - Glenn Vickers
I never saw Ray Hyland, Richie Guerin, Bob Santini, Warren Isaa or Joe Mazzella play so it would be interesting to here where the older alumni would place them. Kevin Bass or Nakiea Miller could fit in with my second team also.

Every few years we post this question....I have see them all, nothing has changed so.............
First team...
PG...............Rory Grimes...Everything a point guard should be. Once saw him go the length of the court off a Bobby Coleman rebound and pass to score in 3 seconds....If there was a looseball rebound scramble, you could rest assured he would come away from the pack with the ball...Durable as they come.
Shooting guard......Steve Burtt Sr......He scored over 2500 points and made it look easy....Once saw him "Dink" a Fairfield player into the stands...Scored from inside, outside, and the foul line. A gem.
Center.........Jeff Ruland....A man among boys....Strong and mean.....Wonderful pro career which injuries shortened.
Power forward.....Gary Springer Sr.....The best pure athletic Iona basketball player of all. You don't become USA Freshman of the year from a mid-major for nothing... Played 2 1/2 with years with useless knees, and still was above the pack...An example to those that say "He will go higher".
Small forward......Richie Guerin....Don't let the thought that he played over 50 years ago sway you.....He could do everything, and his one step drive from the foul line was a thing of beauty and impossible to stop. He scored close to 16,000 points in the NBA, and once scored close to 60 points in a Knick Garden game.....
This team in their prime, without injuries would fare well against any other College all time 1st team.
Second Team...
Point Guard.....Gllen Vickers Shooting guard.....Shaun Green Power Forward....Mindagus Timinskas Small forward....Warren Isaac Center....Bobby Coleman
Honorale mention and tough to leave off....
Kevin Bass......Dave Brown....Steve Burtt Jr.....Courtney Fields.... Kevin Hamilton......Tony Hargraves...Greg Jenkins......Kashif Hameed.....Tiriq Kirksay..(My all time favorite player)....Mickel Larsen.....Nakiea Miller......Richie Simmons.....Dyree Wilson....Ray Hyland...Nester Paine...That is 16 players....Give the lst and 2nd teams 8 each, to make 13, and WOW.
I would not for anyting trade my near 65 years of memories, thrills...victories, and defeats Iona basketball has brought to my sport life....And they are not done yet!!!!!!!
Go Gaels!!!!!!

OT, Kirksay was fun to watch. Strong and smooth and loved those socks. I love your choices. How would you feel about adding Soliver to the end of your honorable mention list?

Also OT, it seemed that Dyree got worse every year. More consistent early in his career.

1st Team:
PG - Rory Grimes SG - Steve Burtt (Sr) SF - Sean Green PF - Gary Springer (Sr) C - Jeff Ruland
Coach: Jim Valvano
2nd Team:
PG - Glen Vickers SG - Kevin Hamilton SF - Tony Hargraves PF - Warren Isaac C - Mikel Larsen
Coach: Pat Kennedy
If Iona were to copy the Jets with a "Ring of Fame" around Hynes, these names would be prominent.
I actually think some oversized action photo's of former players would make great looking murals on the end walls of Hynes.

Tau.....Mindaugus on 2nd team....
Chels...Wilson scored almost 1500 points..Hard to leave him out.. Chels...Counting the names in Honorable mention I find only 15. While typing I must have somehow omitted Soliver in that list.
Go Gaels!!!!!!
