Zagoria reporting LSU and Marquette now recruiting Brown. Strange situation as the original article quoted the So. Miss. coach and AD giving Brown his release because he wanted to be near his family. Will be interesting where he winds up, because if true Rutgers and Iona should be the final 2. Hope the staff can pull this off tomorrow

For all these distant schools suddenly to be on him, it really makes you have to question the validity of him wanting to be close to home. You would think if that were the case, these schools wouldn't be wasting their time. At 6'5", he's the perfect TC fit. Hopefully, our coaches can close the deal tomorrow.

Find it interesting with Brown visiting tomorrow that as many as 6-7 BCS programs still have scholarships remaining for the '14 class, with classes starting in the next couple weeks. Wagner and Canisius just recruited kids for the '14 class. Programs such as Indiana, Oregon and Michigan St. are hosting kids this week for the '14 class. Has there always been so many scholarships available so late in the game among so many levels of programs in D-1? Or is this a new trend developing with programs holding scholarships because of so many transfers?

Zags Tweeting that Brown visits Rutgers tomorrow after coming to Iona today. Fingers crossed that his visit is a success. Would imagine that we will get a boost from our NJ player base - Williams, Laury, Amayo, Ellis.
Let's get em.

While I have my fingers crossed, I don't hold out much hope. Too many BCS schools involved. Hope I'm wrong.

I still think Rutgers and URI are our real competition here. From everything I have seen, relationships are everything to this kid. He originally would have transferred to URI after Temple but would have had to sit two years and lost one year overall in the process. He chose Southern Miss. because of their assistant coach Jareem Dowling who coached the Virgin Islands National Teams which Brown represented in international play... Dowling left this year and I think that had some impact on Brown leaving Southern Miss. He also considered Wagner as a finalist last time around due to Coach Bashir Mason who had helped Hurley coach Brown at St. Benedicts. Rutgers has Mack, URI has Coach Hurley, Iona has Amayo and Laury.... all tight with him. He will see time at all schools but Rutgers and Iona offer the greatest opportunity for time. Iona though, is the only school that offers a strong chance at getting to the dance. The BCS schools are looking for an extra piece of the puzzle while Iona and Rutgers are looking for a main component. Add that to being close to his family and I think Rutgers and Iona are your two leaders. I still do not rule out Hurley... but if the reports of family issues are true, I expect it to come down to the two closest schools. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

86 and Guy, if Bebis is on campus, please let the MAAC Board know as they were getting worried.

Zags tweeting that Brown is not visiting Rutgers tomorrow but will visit Oregon over the weekend. I guess the needing to be near family situation was resolved. Any confirmation if Brown was on campus today and how the visit went if he did?
Update from Zags. Brown's top 5 are Iona, BC, Oregon, USF and FSU. Still have a shot. At least Iona is closest to home if that factors in. Hope the staff can pull this off

Brown was on campus today. No idea how it went, but agree the near home thing is pure crap. Good that we are still alive, but I'm not optimistic.

Don't know what to make of the being near home situation. That was the only reason So. Miss. granted his release, I am sure they are wondering what's going on. Having said that looking at his top 5 list Iona and Oregon play the style that best suits his game. Oregon just signed a 4 star recruit that reclassified to the '14 class who plays his position and their best returning player is their SG who scored 18ppg last year. Amazing Oregon still has 3 scholarships available and will be in a total rebuild this year as well as BC and USF.
Tough to say no to the 4 BCS programs on his list, but if style of play and wanting to be near family are truly important I think Iona has a decent shot. Either way, good job by the staff to get him on campus up against BCS programs.
