Any rumors or info on Ahmed? I remember Kansas St. being a team mentioned when Ahmed decided not to sign early. Kanas St just got a commitment from a forward, imagine that would knock out Ahmed from them. Amazing in these days of twitter that there are not any reports concerning what programs are recruiting him

Nick Malonga,a 6-6 forward from McHenry Community College, will take an official visit to Iona this weekend, according to a Tweet. Averaged 22 points 7 boards at MCC. I believe he just completed his first year at MCC, Chrystal Lake, IL. Don't know if he is elegible '14 or '15. He is also out of IMG Academy and was a teammate of Daniel Robinson. He was reported to be a great student.

James Madison transfor Taylor Bessick has offers from Iona and Siena. 6-9 forward, just finished soph year. Averages of 22.2 minutes, 6.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 50% FGs. I didn't see anything saying he'd be eligible for 2014, so consider him 2015. Article on the kid... If Siena offered him a scholarship and he has to sit a year, that means another one of their bigs must be leaving as they do not have a scholarship to give. . I had heard that Javion Ogunyemi was having a tough first year after losing his mom. i wonder if he is thinking of leaving? temple.247sports.com/Article/Taylor-bessick-recruiting-update-28137606

2014 PG Armel Potter @a_Potter2 Is receiving interest from Tennessee Tech, James Madison & Iona On the phone with Iona coaches this evening.
Armel Potter is a 6'0" PG frpm Marietta, Ga. who was a early commit to Florida Atlantic. Also had an offer from CCSU. Interest from Furman and Mercer. I have no idea why we are looking at another PG with AJ, Sledge, Amayo and Caismir on the team. He was a sleeper who broke out during AAU last summer. He was a second team Al State selection in Class AAAAA. Averaged over 20ppg.

Looks like a vg player. But, as it has been pointed out, we have enough PG's, or it would seem. Is Tavon leaving?

He should be healthy next season and will see plenty of time. He showed improvement on his jumper last season in limited time. If he continues to improve in this area I do not see how he can sit... the kid is a freak of an athlete.

86, I totally agree about Tavon, I just CAN'T see why we are talking to another PG. Unless it is to remind him that if he's not happy where he goes, we'd love to have him transfer to New Ro. To me that's the only thing that makes sense.

Wouldn't a transfer have to sit out. He would never play with sledge.

Wouldn't a transfer have to sit out. He would never play with sledge. He is not a transfer... he would be a true freshman.

Current breakdown by class if everyone stays and all the commits actually arrive on campus.....
Seniors Tavon Sledge David Laury
Juniors A.J. English Isaiah Williams
Sophs Kelvin Amayo Grant Ellis Ryden Hines Daniel Robinson Najeal Young (LOI)
Freshmen Schadrac Caismir (LOI) Shackquiel Scott Bashir Ahmed (VC)
This would leave only one more scholarship to fill. It seems like we have a lot of activity going on to be looking to fill only one more scholarship. I can only assume that either someone is leaving, someone is not coming or both. Until we get the news that Bashir Ahmed has signed his LOI I would assume that the staff might be feathering their nest in the event he does not sign. On possible transfers leaving Iona, lets not speculate regarding which players out of respect for the kids. Time will provide all of our answers.... no need to guess.

Sorry I read that one quickly at the gym, thanks for correcting my stupidity. Yes then It makes no sense to be recruiting a pg, but who knows what is going on. It Does seem like a lot of names out there with just 2 spots open. I guess we will know soon, or by late August.

86.....Good run down...Saves lots of time going back to review....BUT
Are we really down to not speculating ''Out of respect to these kids''......If I speculate, how would I possibly be disrespectful? Am I reduced to not even guessing.......
There will shortly come a day when we will surely pay for coddling sparing youths from life tribulations...Back in the early 1930's, there was little time for ''Kids'', they grew up in a hurry...Thus the ''Greatest Generation''.....
Yea... I know there will be a chorus of ''There goes the Oldtimer again'', but look around you, paradoxically are we really going in the right direction...

Yea... I know there will be a chorus of ''There goes the Oldtimer again'', but look around you, paradoxically are we really going in the right direction... I understand your point but back in the 1930's people did not have the liberty to speculate about such things on a public forum where many people remain anonymous. I also think the "social media" created by the internet has added to the pressures that these kids face. Back in the old days a reporter would break a story after at least checking their sources. Today anyone can post what they want and these false rumors seem to take on a life of their own as bloggers and reporters alike seem to want to rush the stories out to the masses without taking the time to check the sources. Here is an example how such speculation could hurt Iona. Say we start to speculate as to a member of the team who we think might be leaving the program. We post the info innocently to discuss it amongst ourselves. Our board is trolled by other MAAC fans and one of them takes our speculation to the MAAC forum and starts claiming Cluess is running players off. Maybe a recruit or two are reading these forums and starts to think "Hey is Cluess this type of coach".. and they start to wonder if Iona is the place for them because he might recruit over them two years from now. On top of that you may have a kid who is breaking his ass for the program dealing with questions regarding our speculation from every Tom, Dick and Harry on campus. I see nothing wrong with private messages to people regarding the speculations because that would be just that....private. To do it in a public forum where 200 people troll each post for every regular poster it would be unwise Nothing positive can come from it.
