I went to the Marist game and was duly impressed with McCann... If the sidelines seating was as high as the two end zones, it would really give Marist a first rate home court advantage. Totally agree with the end zone (behind the basket) seating at McCann.
Though much better than Hynes, the asymmetrical seating between the side court and behind the basket seats is very uninspiring.
The side court seats appear to be a paltry 10-12 rows while the end zone seats appear triple that height.
Don't most prefer to view a game from the side (center) court?
If it can't be the same height all the way around, it should be higher along the sides not behind the baskets.
Future arena design committee please take note!

I was at Draddy on Friday. With the high ceiling, they could easily add another 10 or 15 rows on each side. If the new norm in the MAAC is to seat 3200 or more, they would seem to be able to do so at a very minimal cost and basically nothing structural would have to be done to the roof. I believe the announced attendance was a little over 2500 and that they had turned people away, as a sell out.

Not sure where to put this, but Iona TV tweets that Iona has purchased 748 and 754 North Avenue, which includes Gemelli Pizzeria, Beechmont Tavern and two vacant retail spaces. Iona is expanding!!

Time to bring this up again, I guess. End of January, 2015 here's where we stand with the little we know. From reading comments on the board by IC59 he's not hearing that any big donors, apart from the usual Angels we have, have stepped up during the "Quiet" phase. Spring/Summer is when we will be asked to donate and we'll see the plan. This is all being funded by private philanthropy; no financing. So what we'll get will reflect the effort to find donors and what alums and basketball fans contribute. We're hopefully looking at anything from a $18 million to $30 million upgrade of the current facility. We're looking hopefully at 4,000 seats, full around arena style seating. Not sure how the plan is going naturally. Do I have it right?

I will disagree with those who say that a facilities upgrade or new arena isn't necessary. Don't think we will fade into oblivion or all of a sudden become St Peter's north, but I do think we will start to see Iona miss out on prospects to other MAAC foes on a more regular basis, and to opponents that we previously shredded in the recruiting wars.
On a one-off basis this might not have a drastic impact, but it will only accumulate in time and put us in a position where we find ourselves playing second fiddle in the conference a few years from now. We need to acknowledge we have an issue and be pre-emptive about addressing it.
This might be a cold shower for some, but this is fact.
In some instances our staff is forced to avoid showing recruits our locker rooms or weight lifting lounge, and in other cases they have to make up excuses as to why top-tier recruits we're pursuing "can't" attend mid-week games against bottom feeder teams. The former is an indictment on our facilities and the latter on our fan support. The staff deserves better.
Anybody in the college coaching business will tell you that recruiting is about facilities, facilities, facilities. It's a miracle that our staff has been able to bring the level of talent to New Rochelle that they have been. And the fact that they have been punching above their weight since TC arrived on campus is NOT an excuse to say let's proceed with the status quo and ignore the need for a new facility.
That kind of hubris is exactly what will make us lose relevancy in the matter of years.
