I like Tavon, but it seems like we've got a quarterback controversy. Do we use AJ at the point and go with a conventional offense the rest of the year, where we can also play conventional defense? Or do we give the keys to Tavon and go back to Cluessketball? What say the faithful?

AJ played very well. Has great length too. I like him as a starter with Tavon coming off the bench. Poole is a sub, and should be used that way.

AJ is the real deal, but I have a feeling that we'll be playing the run game. We couldn't do it against Kansas, but we won't be playing a team like Kansas again this year until we (hopefully) make it back to the NCAAs. I was pretty impressed with our defense tonight. Yeah, we got burned a number of times on ally oops, but I'm not thinking we'll see too many teams with a front line like Kansas again until (hopefully) the NCAAs. I'm, guessing the Gaels will run and gun again. That's Cluess' and Iona's style.
Go Gaels!!!

Aj starts somewhere, that's for sure and agree Poole is a bench player.

Keep in mind that MP is playing PF, so when you put him on the bench, you need a guy that can hit the glass and guard someone to take his place. I'm not saying we don't have one but I'm not sure who it is.

I think we're at a crossroads right now. Cluess can decide how he wants to play the rest of the year. Which way will we go? Was thinking (my conspiracy mind) that maybe we changed up to throw Kansas off, with AJ playing point the last two games. It'll be interesting to see who starts at PG on Sat. One thing about the conventional offense is that I think you can take time to teach and develop Robinson in that kind of system. I think its probably easier to learn. JMO.

I believe AJ needs to start at the point. As I mentioned in the chat room, I feel TC had the best 5 athletes on the floor. Imagine 6-9 would be Tre, Sledge, Hines, and Gomez ( by the way, hope he gets out of the dog house soon as he can handle the ball and has a decent outside shot).
The offense seemed to have a better flow with AJ up top.
Poole will help us as thevseason progresses. He just needs to understand his role as a hustle, grab a loose ball / rebound kind of guy who can make a few interior shots.

Java, I was told by a GC member, and poster on this board, that at last Saturday's reception, a coach told him that DeShawn Gomez has a stress facture, and is "day to day". You heard dog house?

I think AJ played well but I am not sure he has the court vision of a true PG. He missed seeing or was hesitant to make passes when people slashed a few times. With that said, I would let AJ slash more since he showed some real toughness and skills last night. We need a PG that can generate more than two assists. I would like to see Tavon and Gomez split time at the PG spot as they bring different abilities to the team. Tavon runs the transition well when we run. Gomez opens up play for others as he is an outside threat and rarely makes mistakes.

IC, I never verified that info as a # of posters have mentioned (on various threads) Gomez must be in the dog house. Your information should be deemed as more accurate. Hopefully, DG can get out there soon. He did some nice things last season and I for one feel that like AJ, Gomez will step up his game and be an important key to the Gaels success.

Java, thanks. As for my info being more credible, I'm not sure. With coaches you're never sure of anything.

Cluess came out with a game plan he obviously felt (And I agree) Gave us our best chance in this game. It was nice to see we actually had some success with that style of play. Now, back to the track meet.

With a healthy Tavon Sledge I assume we will once again be pushing the tempo. This team knows that scoring is their identity. It is a motivator to work hard as it is what they enjoy about the sport. Almost everyone loves to score and almost no one loves to defend. They have to be taught to appreciate defense and to understand that if they do not defend they will not see the floor. Over time the individual players roles will become defined and we will see more consistent success. Great to see Daniel and Ryden get time on the floor. We will need them to keep David from being asked to do too much down low against taller front lines (Manhattan and Quinnipiac). Be Patient. This team has not been together that long and they will become more cohesive over time. Coach Cluess and staff have shown in past seasons that they can make it work. Just keep your fingers crossed on health/injuries.
