Team played well enough to win easily---despite off night from Laury and Armand.

We just continue to win and that's all that matters. 9 in a row now 17-8 and 14-2 which may be the best winning % an Iona team has ever had in the Maac this late. This could turn out to be that special season we have all been waiting for. I can see this team running the table and bringing a 16 game winning streak into the ncaa's, but I also could see us lose a couple down the stretch and blow the 1 seed, but I must say more of me leans towards the former being more likely.

Good win tonight with the outcome never being in question from start to finish. Some thoughts from the game:
1. Tremendous game from Tre. When he is playing with energy and confidence we are a completely different team. There should be a team mandated quota of 10 shots per game that he's forced to take.
2. Passing tonight was sensational, if anything it was almost too unselfish at times. There were some exchanges where we moved the ball from end to end in the blink of an eye and off multiple touch passes. Was a thing of beauty.
3. Monmouth is a bad team. A real bad team. They have some bodies down low but really can't finish. Also 33% from the foul line is just inexcusable. Not to take away anything from our win, but this was against an awful team.
4. DL3 had an off night, which is almost a good thing since it came in a game that we didn't really need him to be on his A game. Now that it's out of his system let's hope the regular DL3 returns for next game.
5. Best thing about Sean is that he never forces shots and messes up the flow of the offense when it's not his night. He was seeing double teams all night long, and just let the game come to him and found the open man each time. Nice work.
6. AJ's stat line is unbelievable. 21 pts, 13 ast, 1 turnover. He also did a real nice job attacking the rim and finishing, which was nice to see since his 3 pt shot wasn't falling for most of the night.
7. Heard that Hines could be available as early as next week. Nice surprise. We could use him for the stretch run, especially in Springfield.
8. I've never seen as many travels and backcourt violations as Monmouth had tonight. Chalk it up to Iona's stellar defense, I guess. :-)
9. Not sure what the story is with Sledge but seems like he comes in for a minute every game and then gets benched for a missed assignment, and Cluess refuses to put him back in again. Seems like he's on a shorter leash than the others.
10. We did a scrappy job of rebounding tonight. Despite clear size differential, the guys used toughness and creativity to fight for loose balls and get their hand on rebounds. Nice work, especially getting into the transition game right away off of Monmouth misses.
Now we get ready for an extremely tricky game at Rider next week. The week off should help us get prepared and rested for this game. It's important that we maintain our 2 game lead heading into Draddy. I think a win next Friday puts us at about 80% to win the conference.
Go Gaels!!!

I made a comment in the chat room that it's difficult for guys like Sledge, Gomez, and Ellis to get into the rhythm of the game when their tossed in there for a meaningless minute or two. Gomez was given a 4 or 5 minute set in the 2nd half and he was terrific. Very intense on D and he made a very nice pass to DL for an apparent assist which was not to be as DL was caught between a dunk and a lay up and booted it. Very much agree about Bowman. His shot was on and I was impressed with his offensive boards.

Great win team is gaining confidence you can't meaure how big the buzzer beater at Niagra was to the success going forward AJ is going to be an Iona all time great!! Talking about Sledge,Gomez, and Ellis playing time while the team wins 9 in a row is BIZAIRRE!! Clues wants to win games thats what he's doing with the players he decides to put on the court that give them the best chance to win (LET THE KIDS EARN PLAYING TIME BY PRACTICING HARD, STAYING POSITIVE, AND PLAYING WELL AND GIVING THE COACK NO ALTERNATIVE FOR PT)

Iona is a different team when Bowman AND Poole are playing well. Too often it seems it is either one or the other of them.

Richie Guerin is with us. I think we fixed a karmic imbalance.

05, your #10 observation was that we did a scrappy job rebounding. Did you mean to say crappy job, as we were out rebounded, 44-25? And on the offensive rebound side we were down, 15-6. DL only had four and Mike had six to lead the team. Our big improvement over the first game was our turnover totals. In the game at Monmouth we had 18 and last night, we had only eight. My biggest complaint was that once again we had a backcourt violation, and it seems that in almost every game we either have an over and back or almost have one.

We turned them over a lot last night. That helps big time.

Given that dl3 was on the bench for most of the game and Monmouth had a bunch of bodies that were much bigger than us, I thought we showed a lot of effort on the boards. Not sure what you expect when our biggest body is a lanky 6'7 small forward going up against a bunch of trees. All things considered thought that was about as good an effort as we can expect on the boards when dl3 is on the bench.

I simply pointed out that it's difficult for a kid to produce when he plays a minute or two. I really feel that Sledge, Gomez, and Ellis could be productive members of the team. When were in a game with a 23 point lead, why not give these kids a 4 or 5 minute set. Many will argue: "well who will sit then". I'm fine with AJ and/or Sean getting a 4 minute breather to see how these guys can contribute. It would not impact the outcome of the game against a team like Monmouth. I agree with ctbill that we may need these guys IF we are fortunate enough to play 3 games in 3 nights. There are to be NO complaints from those who suggest a 7 man rotation if we're wobbling down to the finish line. We saw DL pick up 2 quick fouls last night and have to sit for the last 10+ mins of the first half. Fortunately we were playing a weak team and his absence was a non issue. May not have been the case against a top tier team.

Yes the ALMOST over and backs are very concerning.
