ghost were you at that game? do you go to the games now? Our crowds suck and its always quiet on the alumni side, that's why its funny that people want to spend money on more seats, we haven't come close to selling out the gym this year. all I am saying there was great atmosphere and it was even better than the iona- manhattan rivalry, there was chanting the whole game, the ga side didn't sit the whole game and even the alumni side had signs and were into it.

Quite honestly 1970, your post regarding Iona and this team are overwhelming miserable and bitter, don't know what you expect, or are looking for here, but good luck in your quest. Many changes have occurred over the last 25 years, it may be time to start accepting some. Btw, I've been to at least 300 home games in this time period.

The Richmond home game in TC's first year, the Nevada bracket buster game, the "Richie Guerin" Manhattan game last year immediately spring to my mind as reminiscent of those LaSalle games. There were plenty of clunker games back then too '71. I've been to many electric games since 1965 when I first started attending Iona games as a student. The college basketball world has changed dramatically since Lasalle was in the MAAC. Indeed that was a great era but that said I just love the Cluess era and what it has contributed to our rich tradition.

We had great turnouts in the Burt Soliver senior season. Should out the entire season.
We had great local rivalries with Fordham and the Maac was a better league.
Wow the joint was empty against FF.
Bring back the pep band

ghost thanks for answering, oh wait you didn't. were you at the game? back then you didn't have to bribe the students with food to get them to come to half a game and then they leave at halftime, and the alumni used to stand and cheer. Now 4 people stand for the veteran of the game its sad.

Our games against Fordham, especially when we had Burtt, Springer, Grimes, Hargraves, Coleman and Truesdale were pretty loud. And before the chair backs, we drew 3200+. I like the 3K+ crowds, but I like the chair backs better.

Now 4 people stand for the veteran of the game its sad. Hard to argue this point. For all the success we've had and excitement we've brought to local area hoops over the past 5+ seasons our attendance is paltry and fan support is not where it should be. The program deserves better. Know the new admin is working hard to address this and have tried out some new things that have been hit or miss.

A couple of observations from one who has been to just about every home game since Mulcahy/Hynes was built:
Nothing compared to the Iona/Fordham MAAC rivalry games.
Some selective memory going on: there were plenty of games in the 80's, 90's, 00's played in front of paltry crowds.
Up until two years ago, weekday evening tipoffs were at 7:30 PM not 7:00 PM. Tough to get to a game on time for those who work - we're not the Knicks or Rangers.
Years ago Iona was more of a commuter school and there were more students still in the area during Fall/Winter break.
For some reason, it seems Iona has had more than a fair share of its games affected by lousy winter weather.
Bottom line is big games draw big crowds.
Oh yeah, that LaSalle team was easily the best team the MAAC ever had.

Still think the program deserves better support and attendance than what it's been getting despite some of the challenges you addressed above. We're not talking about moving mountains here. Figure out a way to pack another 100-200 people into every home game and it would change the atmosphere completely.
