I wanted to pass along the following information for those who will be in the area in the near and not-so-near future.
The College is excited as we continue to move forward with the North Avenue residence hall project. Over the weekend, the College began the internal demolition of the diner and will complete the demolition of the building on Thursday, February 19. The City is requiring that the demolition on Thursday begin at 5 a.m. to mitigate traffic during the morning rush hour. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. The dumpsters for removal of debris will be placed on Summit Avenue, both for easy removal from the site and to act as an additional barrier during the demolition.
Additional changes being implemented to maintain safety during demolition and construction are:
1. Traffic will be restricted from the parking lane on North Avenue in the immediate vicinity of the diner site.
2. The sidewalk will be relocated into the parking lane and lined with Jersey barriers for pedestrian safety. This altered pedestrian walkway will be in place throughout construction.
3. A temporary fence will be in place during demolition. Permanent fencing and perimeter lighting will be installed to secure the site during the construction period.
4. The bus stop at North Avenue and Summit Avenue will be discontinued during demolition and construction. Nearby stops at New Rochelle High School and near Dunkin Donuts should be used until further notice.
