They got lucky that SJ's is in a rebuild and had to schedule the game in the bronx due to conflicts (per SJ's board). Manhattan may be the best team they play OOC. Maybe SJ's. BC is horrible and that game is at the Barc. As an A-10 team, they should win every game on that schedule. Go to think if we wanted to play Maine, Coppin St., Colgate, et al at home we could. We want to play St. Joe's at home, or St. Bonaventure, or a team of that ilk or better.

Bashir Ahmed wants the ball in his hands. He wants to play a role like AJ... I do not see this happening at SJU. They may land him but I do not see this working out very well.

St. John's report from CSM
Final Projection: St. John’s will have some buzz heading into the season because of their coach, but all of that could come crashing down fast. The early season could be a mess while Coach Mullin and company attempt to figure out exactly what they have. However, a month or two into the season, the Red Storm should start seeing better results. There really is some talent on this roster. Much of that talent has been under the radar due to injuries, but if they can stay healthy, this is a team that can compete in the Big East on a somewhat regular basis in 2015-2016. The ceiling may be the NIT, but that would be a great start for Coach Mullin and the young Red Storm.
Projected Postseason Tournament: NIT
Projected Starting Five: Marcus LoVett, Freshman, Guard, DNP last season Durand Johnson, Senior, Guard, DNP last season Ron Mvouika, Senior, Guard, DNP last season Darien Williams, Sophomore, Forward, DNP last season Kassoum Yakwe, Freshman, Forward, DNP last season

I'm now thinking the reason Mullin is playing at Fordham instead of St. John's is that he expects to struggle early and would rather risk losing to them on the road, instead of at home.

This year should be interesting in terms of local press. Let's say SJ's gets off to a rocky start and we're good early. Will we get much coverage? Good test to see if Braziller is joined at the hip with SJ's. I realize the local press has a vested interest in SJ's being good, but let's see how vested. I can even see Fordham getting more coverage than us if they rack up wins against the cupcakes. More Fordham alumni than Iona. Hopefully we'll start strong so we can test the theory of NY press bias in favor of SJ's. I get the sense at this point Braziller would rather talk about Fordham than Iona or Manhattan because he sees them as less of a threat to SJ's. Maybe Columbia too, or LIU/St. Francis.

With Mullin as HC St John's will dominate in terms of NY media attention. If Fordham shows signs of life and starts winning some games they will get a spate of "back from the dead" coverage. As for Iona, we need to do three things to get better coverage. First play some up programs and beat them. Second, win the MAAC tourney. Third, avoid the excruciating collapses in big games that we unfortunately have become known for. Until we do all three things in the same season, we will get the minimal "sure they are a good program" attention we receive from the NY media. I think the local writers consider Iona BB not quite ready for prime time, and will hold that opinion until we prove them wrong.
Just think of how our media profile would be if we hadn't fallen apart in the BYU game.
