This is a different Iona team. Deeper and more length than anything we have seen in the Cluess era. I expect that we will have great success this year but the one question we have is our staffs ability to effectively develop and utilize our bigs. While Cluess has had great success at the Div 2 level... the one factor that does not translate between Div 1 and 2 is the use and athleticism of bigs. While Div 2 and 3 produce some fantastic guards and wings they usually lack skilled, athletic bigs. Most bigs are one dimensional at the lower levels and usual are not great athletes. Glover came to us complete. DL developed a better outside shot (or rediscovered it) but was 95% complete. Neither had a legitimate back or real help off the boards so the staff was limited and had to run them into the ground every game. This team is different... size, athleticism and some real toughness. If Cluess is as good a coach as I think he is, this is going to be a great year if everyone stays healthy. So fuck Goodman... his opinion has never put a single point on the board during a game or helped with a single rebound. Winning the MAAC is the only goal that counts and we will set more goals after that target is checked off the bucket list. I prefer to be the hunter and not the hunted. Take these snubs and use it as some fuel to push the players. Your analysis is on point. More than that, I admit that as a fan I want it to be correct. What I'm nervous about is Cluess playing 7 guys to the point of exhaustion again. And yes, I'm worried about another conf tourney disappointment or a full blown post season debacle. As a fan I expect this to be the year Cluess overcomes the end of season problems. As an observer of the past 5 seasons, I'm a little nervous. Go Gaels.

I think this team has as good a chance as any to achieve post-season success. The problem is all it takes is one bad game at the wrong time. We could go 28-2, roll through the MAAC Tournament and then play that one bad game against a beatable team in the first round of the NCAA, or draw a horrible match-up. I often think of the 2006 team - I believe there were at least 40 teams in that NCAA tournament we could have beaten, and we drew the worst possible match-up against a team we had no chance against - and still kept it relatively close. I'm optimistic though. This is the year we get the monkey off of our backs! I hope more writer's leave us off their lists!

Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 18h18 hours ago This season looks like a bridge year 4 St. John's, but competing for a spot in the middle of the Big East looks realistic in 16-17. #sjubb

Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 18h18 hours ago St. John's is the mystery team in the Big East. Red Storm likely won't have a starter that played college basketball last year. #sjubb

Yahoo on A-10 OOC schedules:
Easiest non-league schedule: Fordham
Overmatched in every conceivable way in the Atlantic 10, Fordham has compiled an astonishingly bad 14-100 record in league play the past seven seasons. Therefore it's hard to blame new coach Jeff Neubauer for trying to build some early confidence in his team by assembling a non-conference schedule loaded with home games against low-major opponents.
All but two of the 11 non-league games Fordham plays this season will be at home and all but one will be in New York City. The only two name-brand opponents are St. John's and Boston College, both of whom are headed for rebuilding seasons next year.
The rest of the opposition is mostly teams likely to finish sub-250 in the RPI — Coppin State, Maine, Fairleigh Dickinson, Colgate and the like. Fordham better pick up some wins against those teams because if history is any guide, the Rams will find victories scarce once conference play begins.
