To be fair we did lose 2 starters for the season. It makes a difference. It does. And a lot of us anointed some of the new guys as great players. Only JW has been as advertised by our own Board. Losing the starters makes a huge difference, and what's infuriating is Cluess' refusal to adjust to the changing circumstances and get this team to play defense and to value the ball more on offense. Our defense is non existent for most of each game and we throw the ball away in crunch time. No defense, little composure and reliance on the same old approach is on Cluess and the staff.

Agreed. A lot of the pre season hype had Rountree and/or Bessick filling that Taaj Ridley role. Neither have panned out. Hope I'm wrong, but I see this team as a #6 seed that flames out in the first round of the tourney.

Shaping up to be the most disappointing season since Ruland's first year as coach.

Fully admit to being wrong about Bessick. I've seen him have some dominant practices. Yet, those don't count. I think Rountree has had a nice year. He's just not a scorer.

To be fair we did lose 2 starters for the season. It makes a difference. We lost 1 starter imo, amayo i believe would have came off the bench Ok, but 6th man and impact player when healthy, and probably our best player the last 2 games of last season.

I might be wrong, I would have to go back and check, but I think there was talk of being a top 25 team, an at large bid, the second best team in iona history, AJ a first round NBA draft pick, Maac champs....etc . Now, I consider myself as being way more of a realist than most that post here, but I had us going 14-6 in the Maac, no way that happens. Big disappointment. I knew we were in trouble after the second game of the season, The Valpo and ore-st. games were tough road games against good teams, but we played like a top 250 team(which we probably are), not a top 25 team.

And all of this will be forgotten if they win the MAAC Tourney.
This feels like the year we won it as a 4 seed.

Aj is no momo, momo played hard on both ends, at least i dont have to read anymore aj is the greatest gael, if u never played in the tourny u cant be in the didcussion, especilly when the maac is at an all time low, never ranked in the 20's this many years in a row

Irrelevant because I'm talking about the MAAC Tournament. And as 70 points out, the MAAC sucks. We can very easily win the tournament.

At first I thought the same thing about the 12-13 team and this year's team, but other than underperforming compared to preseason expectations, the similarities end there.
The 12-13 team was snakebitten, with most of their losses coming in heartbreaking fashion and decided by a basket. You genuinely felt sick for those guys, especially when we were enduring that stretch of gutwrenching losses. This year's team is losing for completely different reasons.
With the 12-13 team you always felt like karma was going to come back to us by the end of the season, which it ultimately did. With this year's team, we deserve the record we have. Hopefully things change.

I didn't feel that way at all. I felt we had a chance to win, but I didn't think it was a karma thing.
And this league is terrible. We have every reason to believe we can still win, even from a lower seed. Say we end the 4 seed, and we win our first round game (which I think we would)--would you really think we have no shot to beat Monmouth? Think about the ridiculous amount of 1 seeds that have fallen in the MAAC Tournament, regardless of where it was held.

Anything is possible, but Iona's poor play is a big part of why the MAAC sucks this year. I just can't see this team and the staff turning things around enough to get it done. And I sincerely hope that I'm dead wrong.

I read in other threads some people suggesting that he's packed up the season and turned his focus on boosting his NBA prospects. Would find this to be highly surprising and very out of character for him to do this.
