I've started this thread with the hope that we can post BB stuff about other MAAC teams. I'll start with Siena, and their nine point win, lst night, over Indiana of Pennsylvania. Their fans are very excited, and I guess rightly so, over the play of freshman, Nico Clareth. The 6'5 OG shot 9-17 and led the team in scoring with 24 points. His FG shooting percentage was impressive when compared to their starters, Wright and Oliver, who combined to shoot 2-13 or 14. Some also posted that Wilhelm Brandyk (Sp?) will RS this season. I know that other MAAC teams are/have played exhibitions but don't have any details. Does anyone?

Monmouth defeated Georgian Court, 107-77, GC lost to FDU by a point, last week. Daily Dose of Hoops reports that Monmouth showed good depth, playing 13 guys. Their bench accounted for 70 of the 107 points. Hornbeak led the Hawks with 15 points, shooting 5-7 from the field, with six assists, and four steals. IMO, he's their best player, and they have a deep team, and will be our toughest challenge.
Not as impressive was Rider's 65-44 win over Univ of the Sciences, A D2 team that was good a year ago. I base that on the fact that they only scored 65 points and that no new guy stood out. Teddy Okerafor led the Broncs with 13 points.
And unofficially, Siena beat a good Columbia team in a scrimmage. Supposed to have been a close win. Only news from the game was that Clareth didn't have the type of game that he had in their opener. No specifics.
Did anyone hear anything else about the MAAC teams?

Good news for Manhattan, as they lost, tonight, to 6-20 (last season), Adelphi. Some bad news for the Jaspers is that Shane Richards scored 38 points. So while the other Jaspers will stop reading their press clippings (We're trying to make history), Shane will start reading his.

And Adelphi graduated their top scorer. From a 6-20 team. At least STAC is a good team. Now I am concerned for the Jaspers because 1/2 their team will still be reading their press clippings.

To put it politely, the reviews I heard about the kid from Iona Prep were less than stellar.

There's not a doubt in my mind Manhattan won't be a threat in Albany.

I think our biggest threats, and this is not rocket science, are ourselves (Iona), Monmouth, Canisius, and Siena.

My Power Five (Before the season starts): 1. Iona (Clear favorite, but can't go through the motions and expect to win, either regular season or tourney) 2. Monmouth (Pretty close in talent and depth to the Gaels) 3. Siena ( Probably best of the rest. Good depth and a strong front court. Questionable rotation by JP) 4. Rider (A good coach and a veteran team) 5. Quinny (Surprise team, with a lot of new talent. Will probably struggle early)

As for Quinny, I have a felling they're going to be a real dumpster fire this year.

I want to go record as saying that Manhattan will be a PIG team. Granted that SM is a VG coach, but the talent isn't there, this year. Keep in mind that when they defeated us in the finals of the MAAC, last year, they had two vg players in Andujar and Pankney. And now both are gone, and it doesn't seem that anyone has stepped up to take their place. And no matter how poorly they start the year, SM will remind us all that they started slowly last year as well. And since they've been in the tourney finals for three consecutive years, they'll be considered a team to fear. I'm saying not this year.

I think they'll finish around mid-pack (will define that as either 5th or 6th), but Masiello DOES have a solid history of having his team peaking by March. Remember that he got to the finals as a 6 seed when we beat them there. His system is geared toward tourney success. They will have a mature PG in Stores and a solid scorer in Richards, and others will step up for them. I think you and others are right that they may not have the horses to WIN the tourney, but I can see them making some noise.

Just a reminder that I said that Manhattan = PIG, BEFORE the news on Lawrence came out.
