Let me be the first to thank my Dad, OT and all military that has kept us safe at home through the years. Both living and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Amen, Chels. My dad was wounded but my uncles came back unscathed. When I see our warriors rent by IED's it tears my heart out. God bless and sustain them all, these our best.

Every once in a while my memory flashes back to a face I have not seen for over 70 years and one I will never in actually ever see again...
To hear Obama apologize for President Truman's decision to use the atomic bomb after receiving information what it would cost in a estimated American lives to invade and conquer Japan I can only wish that he would have to suffer the agony of standing at full attention while having a half million ghostly images of young American soldiers march by who would never live to enjoy life along with the rain of a river of tears shed by those that loved them...
This decision to some may be have the inhumane thing to do..
Not to me........!!!!!

OT, I created the thread to honor you and others. To post that Obama apologized for the Atomic bomb is bullshit. He did not apologize and you are better than that.

Super....It appears lately that everything that does not agree with your philosophy is posted in the wrong place...Just curious where does a posting that refers to Memorial day belong, or is the subject matter the real culprit... What a shame! Chels...Do you think our President went over there during the Memorial day weekend to reprehend them!!!

You are guilty of what you accuse of so many others. Making statements that are untrue and using them to invite others. Shame, shame. Trumplike.

[/quote] Whether because of or in spite of that cataclysmic event, Japan has been one of our staunchest allies for years. Why not recognize that on Memorial day. While we are at it, did not OT, my father in law and others go into that war to beat back the intolerance and repression that OT now pines for?

Super........Memorial Day..... .A day serving to preserve a memory, not to celebrate the time and occurrences that subseqently followed which were brought about with the blood of those that we now this day remember.......... To even suggest that I pine for intolerance and repression after devoting my entire life to combat them smacks of a vindictive personality that at times loses control of rationality...... And to some it may have been a cataclysmic event, to others it was a day of salvation.......

"And to some it may have been a cataclysmic event, to others it was a day of salvation......." Are you actually celebrating that event? "Nobody is more disturbed over the use of Atomic bombs than I am but I was greatly disturbed over the unwarranted attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor and their murder of our prisoners of war." - Your Commander in Chief. Having received reports and photographs of the effects of the Hiroshima bomb, Truman ordered a halt to further atomic bombings. Sec. of Commerce Henry Wallace recorded in his diary. "Truman said he had given orders to stop atomic bombing. He said the thought of wiping out another 100,000 people was too horrible." It was a cataclysmic event!

St.Louis.......When the Island of Okinawa was mostly secure I was detailed to search a wooded area for dead bodies...When they were American we were instructed to mark their location where they were to be picked up and carted for proper burial...If they were Japanese we were to after noting any identification and location prepare for their cremation.....We were a 8 man crew 4 of which were for protection as there were still scattered enemy around....2 of my group carried gas filled tanks which they sprayed and burned the dead enemy for Island health reasons.....
It is not my wish, but if those of ''Goodie, Goodie'' why can't we all get along with brain washed liberal views had to have searched that forest, seen the swollen mangled bodies and sightless eyes then perhaps they would post with different views and understand why I am what I am....!!!!!

I do not doubt for a moment what you saw, experienced and had to do. But the pain from those horrific experiences has nothing to do with your political opposition. It has everything to do with the Nazis and Japanese of the 1930's and '40s. Thanks to you, my father-in-law (who may have stood shoulder to shoulder with you) and many others; I can sit here and engage you in this debate - and it is an honor to do so. You guys rid the world of those aholes. May you have happier thoughts on this Memorial Day!

You're not the only one on this board who confronted the horrors of war, so your "Goodie Goodie" remark is not welcome and totally offensive. I do understand, however, why you are what you are--believe me.
