Don't know what Super's opinion is, but I think that the four players mentioned will make a positive impression on our HC. They are going to have to be a lot better,if it’s close he’ll play underclassmen who he recruited as opposed to SRS he didn’t recruit. My assumption is he'll play those who perform best and play best in his system. Experience counts.

Pitino has had 1 losing season in his college coaching career, back at Boston University during the '80-'81 season. He's playing his best players

RP will play those who are best prepared and perform, be they vets or newbies.

Yes he will play the best, don't see to many guys being in his top 8 from the returning guys, I see the transfers fitting in and 2 returnees

I think that RP will put winning first and player development second. Think he'll play the guys who give us the best chance of winning, no matter who recruited them. As the season develops, I can see him playing the new guys more, but not at first. JMO.

So he will do what any coach would do. Evaluate his talent in practice and then play who he feels is best. Then make adjustments going forward. Interesting.

HFCRP is going to play the players who play the way he tells them to. If they decide to hot dog it, freelance it, or show off for the fans they're going to get splinters (that phrase tells you how old I am). The most gifted player on the team won't play if he decides he knows more about basketball than the Coach. Also, he loves gym rats and people who practice hard and with a good attitude. Anyone with a bad attitude will be gone at the end of the season, at the latest, unless Coach has mellowed in his retirement years. He's the best coach in college and knows it.

With the exception of the last three words in your post, you just authored a perfect description of Tim Cluess.

I have to admit I know nothing about your former coach, because Iona doesn't seem to be on TV very often in my area. Reading this board I can tell the fan base seems to be very fond of him, so he must be a good coach. Just a few minutes ago, I was looking at Twitter and found a tweet by one of Louisville's former players. Included was a short video of the player running into the opponent ball-handler and winding up with the ball, only to miss his own shot a few seconds later. Time was called and as he walked off the floor HFCRP was ripping him a new one. The former player was laughing about it, but Coach Pitino chimed into the conversation and explained he was ripping him for missing a defensive assignment a couple of moves prior to the "steal". That game was seven years ago. Pitino is older now and (I don't think) can match his fieriness in the 1990s, but he lives basketball and is coming there to win.

Men like RP never lose their fire. Exactly, just look at Krzyzewski at Duke. Older and still full of fire. And while we're on the topic, also the best coach in college basketball. No disrespect to our coach, but let's be real.

greg, not saying you're wrong, but not saying you're correct, either. Both are great coaches, but too close to call. Coach K has had a big career advantage by staying in one place, much like Jim Boeheim. Rick Petino, imo, belongs on Mt. Rushmore for college coaches. Especially, if he can work his magic at IC.
