Mt. Vernon won a tournament (3-0) in Vancouver, this weekend, and Troy Hupstead was named the Tourney MVP.

I'm pretty sure that we don't have a shot, but Stepinac's RJ Davis had 41 points yesterday in their win over St. Ann's (brain cramp).

R.J. Davis - 5' 11' CG - 3-Starmout of Stepinac - Great offensive guard. Can put a team on his back. Won a national AAU championship with the New York Gauchos U14 team. As a sophomore, he averaged 20.8 points per game, and led Stepinac to a 27-5 record, and the CHSAA Archdiocesan title, the CHSAA title and the New York State Federation title, to go along with the No. 1 ranking in the staten which earned him CHSAA “AA” First Team honors. Offers from Penn State, Concinnati, Yale, Seton Hall, GW, Marist, Maryland, Providence, SJU, Illinois, Old Dominion, Fordham, Saint Louis, VCU, LaSalle, Manhattan, UMASS, LIU and Marquette. Interest from California, UConn, Georgetown, Harvard, Stanford, Villanova, Louisville, PITT, Princeton, Ohio State, Siena, Rutgers and Virginia. His father scored over 2,000 points while staring for Mercy back in the mid-80's.
Scouting reports:
Scouting Reports:
"Combo guard R.J. Davis put an undermanned Stepanic team on his back and really showed how talented he is on the offensive end. Davis, who is about 6-feet tall, is a warrior on the court and backs down from nobody. Davis finished the game with 29 points and four assists, and he was 4-8 from deep. He needs to be more efficient with his dribbles, but there is no denying just how impressive he was, and how gifted he is on the offensive end with the ball in his hands." - The Empire Invitational recap 247 hoops
“At the age he’s at, his skillset, his mindset is definitely more mature than what his actual age puts him at, He has unbelievable upside. To be skilled as he is, not only shooting the ball at the two, but being able to back guys down, finish at the rim,, defend, rebound, deflect passes, he’s got high-major, pro-level upside.” - Stepinac coach Pat Massaroni

Not a prayer in the world. Agreed. Saw him at the Torrey Pines holiday tourney last year. If Alan Griffin went to Illinois, I would believe RJ would go to a school on par or higher. Excellent talent.

Troy Hupstead had 15/12 in his last game, vs. New Rochelle. Have no idea if we're interested, but he's gotten my attention. The Mt. Vernon guard, LoVett is doing well, also.

Nice to get involved with a kid like this. Odds are zero chance to get him out of stepinac, but good idea to build a relationship now in case things don't work out at a higher level program and he wants to come home.
Iona is reported to be class of '19 PG Glen Anderson. He is only 5'8", which has slowed down his recruiting. Has offers from Iona, Howard, stony brook and Bryant. A few mountain west conference programs have interest, but currently tying to get him to prep a year and offer him for the '20 class. Anderson has outplayed multiple guards that are being recruited from higher level programs.
Anderson is the type of kid that people wonder a few years from now how he wound up at a MAAC program.
