Puzzled why Cluess would encourage a prized recruit to reclassify for a year at prep school where he will certainly be recruited by a new group of schools. There must be a reason. Maybe his relationship with Guy is that strong? You seem to have some insight, Sharkey. I agree with you. All I know is that I have gone back and forth with a writer who covers Guy's Cordova HS team. He has told me that Guy Jr. was all set to be part of the '19 class, and feels he is ready for college hoops. Going by his offers and interest he was receiving, it appears that he is ready. Yes, I was told the reclass to the '20 recruiting cycle was Cluess' idea and Guy Jr. bonded so well with TC that he agreed. From what I understand with so many players returning, the thought is his PT might be limited. Of course, if some of the current players don't improve the rest of the season, Guy Jr. can just stay in the '19 class. Maybe the staff feels confident they arein a good position with some other '19 recruits? remains to be seen, but with the history of committed recruits never making it on campus, sure sounds risky especially with a 6'5'', legit 3-star recruit, that can fill some of the current weaknesses, no matter how much he likes Cluess. Will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

IF this player shows up in 20 months to be part of the team, I plan on watching him play 6 games before passing judgment on his skill set / ability to meld with the team. I figure 6 games should offer a reasonable sample size to determine if he's a good fit. I'm going to avoid drinking the Kool Aid with any recruit.

Couple of reports on Guy Jr. on twitter today. He is having a big Sr. season, averaging over 20ppg. One of the top 15 prospects in Memphis, as well as making 1st team all district. Really wonder why Cluess wants Guy Jr. to reclass into the '20 recruiting class. HM programs are still tracking him. Sounds like a big gamble that he doesn't get recruited by HM programs if he goes to a prep school.

I realize that's a negative comment but I'm trying to be realistic. I don't recall Iona landing that high a recruit out of high school since Gary Springer Sr.

Just wondering if we'll ever get the real story. I'll give a possible answer. Iona doesn't want other schools to recruit him this year so they don't put on a full court recruiting press, since he's a 2020 prospect. At the last minute he reclassifies to 2019 and signs with Iona.

Otherwise I cant see why we want him to reclassify to 2020.

Interesting theory, but if he was going to be part of the '19 class all of the time, he could have been locked in by signing his LOI in the early signing period.

Trust is very important in this process. There is an explanation as to why Guy was advised to enter the 2020 class but not via this tactic...
