Great game by McGill and best senior day game I can remember. He’s simply a winner!
Amazing performance 1- 8-16 2- 5-10 from 3 3- 9-9:FT 4-7 rebounds,4 assists,4 steals 5- 40 minutes And the main event,ZERO turnovers.Couldnt be happier for him,what great memories he’ll have of his 4 years here!!!
Struggled to get through his Senior Day bio. I was emotional. Probably said his name more than any other in my nearly 40 year PA announcer career, having seen and announced him several times at the County Center during his Spring Valley HS days. All the best going foward, #0, RICKEY McGILL!!!

Great post and welcome, Rich!
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

You know you are good when little kids imitate your player announcements. Every home game I hear kids imitating the ”EJJJJJJ Crawford” call. Welcome, Rich.

Rickey McGill has really impressed me with his basketball growth at Iona. I have not done any research here because I am too lazy to do it.
As a freshman, I remember Rickey as, well, a freshman – nice player who looks like he can develop into a reliable point guard. OK, I cheated; his minutes at 10 were behind IBN, Ced (injury year) and Proctor. His A/TO was essentially 1:1. By way of contrast, the prior year’s freshman guard had 34 MPG; .43 3pt (Rickey was .28); A/TO 1.5:1. I don’t remember Rickie getting any MAAC ROY awards.
During his first several years at Iona, I never saw Rickey as a shooter let alone “a go to” when you need a bucket. Even though he led the team in scoring as a junior at 13.4 PPG, I saw him as the “straw that stirs the drink”. He involves everyone else; now he inspires everyone else.
The development of this young man over his four years is impressive. Rickey is still the straw, but now he is THE STRAW. EJ is clutch; Rickey is the Leader. Anyone else think that Rickey can now jump out of the gym. The guy is in there getting clutch rebounds, clutch blocks, clutch deflections, clutch steals. An opponent has to know where he is on the floor for all 40 minutes of the game. While I pucker a little less at his treys, his pull up jumper where he elevates is deadly. In the past, you worried about his ability to create lateral space; now he creates vertical space. His ability to get in the paint and elevate is a dagger. Just when you feel his options are cut off, he takes off.
Rickey is not going to be the leading scorer in Iona history, nor the leading rebounder, nor assists. But he can go out as THE LEADER. A fourth MAAC title gives him his very own pedestal – right alongside Richie G., Little Joe, Stevie, Steve, Scott, and Big Jeff. A fourth MAAC pedestal for Rickey is most appropriate in that it reflects his leadership, his grit, and his “stir the drink” excellence.
I really enjoy seeing these four year players develop under Coach C. I fear we have a break coming after EJ. I hope I am wrong again.

I know I'm higher on Ristanovic than most, but I really believe he has a very huge upside. Cluess has been quoted on highly he feels about him and his potential. While very inconsistent this year, he has played a major role in a few wins. Hope he develops into a solid rotation player, and possible full time starter next year, and then take a star type role by his Jr/Sr seasons.

I feel the same way about Ristonavic. High upside potential. Certainly no guarantee that he develops fully, but the potential is there.
After EJ, I'm expecting big things from Gist. He really came on this year.
I’m glad Gist is beginning to get some positive recognition after being beat up a good part of the season. I still say he is the PG for the next two years 😉. I know this post will elicit some “he’s a shooting guard” or “he doesn’t record assists” responses. Go ahead...

If we can get Gist an extra year of eligibility it would be huge. I had lost patience with Gist during OOC play, but he has come on strong and shown he has a great work ethic. If he can improve his 3 pt shooting in the off-season he can be a very dangerous MAAC player. I think he can become a Momo-like player for us except one degree lower in quality.
