@gaelnationtbt: It’s with sadness we announce that our main man @rountreeiii will not be playing with us this summer! Tree reached out his desire to play close to home for his family to see and we gladly accepted!! We wish Tree nothing but the best! Except when they play us @thetournament 😂😂😂 You should replace him with Isaiah Williams.

Joke...Syracuse gets two games at Syracuse. They have to do this. Need people to show up for these games. Ohio State gets same advantage. As do other schools. Just good marketing.

This tournament has really taken a turn for the worse over the past few years. It was on an uptick and gaining a lot of national attention for a while, but it doesn't seem to have stuck. I think this tournament has another 3 years left in it and then it will cease to exist unless they change their strategy soon.

That does not make it a success.

My opinion is that last year was terrific. It's a fun event and seems to pay for itself. I don't know what your expectations are.

It's a fun event and seems to pay for itself. I don't know what your expectations are. TBT is a fun distraction for a week in the summer for basketball junkies like ourselves, but it has not lived up to the hype. A few years ago the tournament organizers had aspirations to build a big money tournament (believe the number $50MM was tossed around at one point) and attract big name sponsors. Truth is very few big name sponsors have latched onto the event, and the ones that have have not spent big money on it. Consequently the prize pool has been stuck at $2MM for several years. Additionally, the tournament is not well run IMO...it's very provincial and feels like you're watching high school tournaments. It has an identity crisis, can't decide if it wants to be an NCAA alumni event or a professional event. None of the alumni teams are affiliated with the colleges yet the tournament goes out of its way to position them as such. Nobody understands how the voting process works, and the experimental rules from last summer were stupid and made it seem like a gimmick event and not real basketball. I don't have the ratings data, but would be surprised if the ratings have increased over the past 2-3 years on ESPN. My opinion...it is a nice event if you're looking for summer hoops, but it has not come close to reaching its potential and it is on the down swing over the past few years.
