Given the zoning restrictions and the limited footprint this is a good solid plan. New lighting , fresh bleachers updated entrance all go a very long way to what we need. If in the future we are turning thousands away per game and North Ave is backed up for miles that will be a good problem to have. What is the point of building a 4000 seat arena that is half full for games? I've never seen a Quinnipiac game on TV that looks like anyone is there.

The College received permits earlier this week, so clearly in the works for awhile.
Reportedly, the College had drawn up plans, raised the funds, and ordered the materials while waiting for permits - and did not want to announce plans until permits were in hand - as they didn’t want to risk community push back jeopardizing the renovation. Great news for the College and an incredible gift from the Arrigoni’s. Thank you Ed and Mary Jane!!!
Spellman, Business School and Athletic Center renovations all happening concurrently..... Go Gaels!!

This is a major move forward in the Iona BB experience. I look forward to visiting the house that Cluess built. I also look forward to future enhancements, even within the current footprint. As we approach sell-outs in the new configuration, I hope of see us take those seats right up to the roof rafters a la Allen Fieldhouse at KU. I had to switch seats with my buddy a few years back so that he would not bang his head on the roof at the Iona/KU game. The rafters over my head had foam padding to protect one's head. I would also like to see the seats come right up to the court a la Cameron Arena. Finally, we can fill in those building corners with seating bridges, fire codes permitting. It's up to us to take it from here and force those capacity expansions. As much as I disagree with OT, I hope he gets to take in a game or two in the new Arena. That's how much of an impact this good faith move has on me.

It appears that IONA higher ups have come to a conclusion that games will seldom draw more then 2,500...It has been stagnent for the past 75 years...The area is not one that can overcome and compete that New York City liabilities present...I would have prefered 3,500, but studying past figures and finance considerations I am sure for rare overcrowed conditions we can control another few hundred...I also feel sure that if IONA was located in another more conducive to basketball area we would draw crowds of easily 5,000 to 7,000 with ease especially with its record and type basketball it plays..........
We have come a long way since the games in the old WW2 left over wooden arena and teams of club nature....OT

OT, always great to hear from you. I was at Iona, last weekend, and was told we got agreement from the City for the renovations, because we agreed not to increase capacity. Our neighbors don't want more cars in their neighborhood. This is a good first step, and let's see how many fans show up. If we are ever able to secure the Dunne property, it could mean athletic lounges and improved locker rooms. Don't know if there has been any recent negotiations. As you said, we've come a long way, and I hope to see you at a game, next season.

Hi Guys, just can't stay away from this board. Best MAAC message board by far. Great to see the staff add another solid recruit in Cashaw, but this tweet from this morning really got me going and already looking forward to next season. Exciting and good times ahead

Deep in Ho Hum time! With the renovations in progress, where does the team practice during the Summer and Fall? Will we even know who is on Campus? '59, feel free to chime in.

JMO, but I would think that they would use the courts at the west end of the HAC. I know that they are for student use, but during the summer months there are fewer students on campus and practice for both the Men's and Women's teams total about three hours for four days. And the team practice sessions would probably be scheduled at off hours.
