There have been updates posted on social media. What do you guys want them to do, mount a video feed of the construction? I want them to promote this, try to create a sense of excitement. In a sustained way that draws people in and attracts attention. A random post or two on social media doesn’t cut it. This is not brain surgery, and they are screwing this up.

I would also guess the Arrigoni challenge isn't going as well as hoped. If you guys are looking for weekly tallies, it ain't happening. We are not hoping for weekly tallies. Show the progress that is being made. Talk it up. We are building things; show the progress of the renovations and construction while discussing what the final products will bring in terms of improvement. For God’s sakes this is basic sales. We are expecting that the College will promote the fundraising campaign, that’s how you get more people to donate. The College doesn’t do a very good job of promoting the larger Iona Forever campaign either. We get a few random updates on that, but nothing that really promotes it. I see firsthand what other schools and charities do to promote a campaign. There you see a very focused, even relentless, effort.

Perhaps fundraising comes down to the job status of Paul Sutera. Is he staying in his job, or does Dr. Carey have his own person coming in with him? Does any one know?

Agree on a lot of this.
Perhaps they're following Rich Ensor's model for promoting the MAAC.

Perhaps those of you with complaints should contact Iona rather than whining about it here.

There have been updates posted on social media. What do you guys want them to do, mount a video feed of the construction? Could they do that? Iona has done that in the past with major construction problems. I am not sure if the logistics make it difficult to do since this is an inside project as opposed to putting up new buildings or the renovation of the Business School where cameras can be mounted on other buildings to provide real-time or even time-lapse video.

Perhaps those of you with complaints should contact Iona rather than whining about it here. What makes you think they haven't? Exactly. I have raised this directly with the College in addition to posting it here. And I’ll raise it again. Im raising it here in the hopes of getting more people to highlight this.

Imagine that; focused communication to raise the profile of a fundraising campaign and create a sense of excitement. They must be true innovators at Holy Cross.

Agree that more may be able to be done. Don't be fooled though, even experienced, successful fundraisers will tell you that raising this amount of money is not easy for a small institution.

That’s why you need to raise the public profile of both campaigns. This is not an either or choice. You still pursue the private cultivation of large donors while at the same time using a public campaign to reach the masses.

I am going to scratch a scab that has been sitting out here for a few weeks. For a young (freshly appointed, a year in the job) AD, this is a perfect opportunity to lay down a single - not a home run. This is a modest short-term project - over a summer, which has clearly piqued the interest of the athletic constituency. It goes to the core sport of the athletic program. We are taking a pass on feeding the beast. I know I have ruffled some feathers for my earlier posts on our new AD in another thread, up to and including a reprimand from the Don for not posting a media reference in support of my case. I am still looking for such a reference, and I will not use a media reference which contains inaccurate information. Our freshly minted AD has yet to identify his opportunity. He has a year in now - time to start marking the turf.

So the AD doesn't get any of the credit for securing the initial funding ($6MM?) that enabled us to build our first athletic upgrade of consequence in the past 20 years, yet he gets all of the BLAME for not promoting it effectively to secure the next wave? Maybe he would've been better off not even raising the first batch in the first place. Man, leadership jobs are a bitch. PS I've been more critical than anyone about the need to do a better job promoting the MBB program as a whole.
