The Iona College men's and women's basketball teams announced an exhibition doubleheader against non-NCAA Division I opponents at the Hynes Athletics Center on Saturday, November 2. The women kick off the event at 5:30 p.m. vs. Kutztown University before the men host Mount Saint Vincent College at 7:30 p.m. It will be the first intercollegiate basketball event in the newly renovated Hynes Center. It is the first time since the 2006-07 campaign the Iona men hosts a non-Division I exhibition contest. icgaels.com/news/2019/9/9/iona-hoops-to-host-exhibition-doubleheader-on-november-2.aspx

Wow! I can’t wait to see the reaction to this announcement. Will we be starting the walk-ons?

Sounds like they want to work the kinks out with the new facility before having a “real” game. Not a big deal.

I like it. We've been griping for years, we want to see the team in an exhibition game instead of all the closed scrimmages that we don't get to see. This is brilliant. And I also like that it happens to fall on a bye week for my son's football team, so I can actually attend!

Hope they put it out there on icgaels.com for the Out Of Towners. In addition to icgaels/give, let's have icgaels/see. There is a strong correlation between the two. ESPN+ would be asking for too much??

Hopefully the redesign took into account camera angles and other TV production concerns. Can't believe how many new arena's have horrible camera placements.

Can't believe how many new arena's have horrible camera placements. how many? Just Re-did Dayton arena and kept the same awful camera locations. Changes for NCAA tournament as they remove seats to get better angles. Schottenstein arena is about 20 years old and redone once, still terrible camera locations. Hoffheinz arena in Houston is an example of one that took this into account during redesign. Brought the cameras down closer to court level. Good sign is that they took lighting into account for the redesign of Hynes. Hopefully they addressed other production issues. BTW, I don't think we ever had terrible productions. One of the advantages of a small space.

MSV is in the Skyline Conference where current Iona trustee and former Asst. AD, Linda Bruno, is the Commissioner.

Back in yore, when I was young, MSV lost an early-season game to Elizabeth Seton, a JUCO which Iona eventually bought and then Marymounted. MSV later beat Hofstra, which then beat Iona. Iona then won an up game (maybe South Carolina). The up team beat someone else who then beat eventual national champ Louisville. Making Elizabeth Seton a title contender. 😄
