Gym is beautiful, lots of scoreboards, a bit small in person, looks bigger on the videos I have seen. Biggest negative was sound was too loud, at least at first. Overall very nice upgrade and also hallway outside the gym is impressive with TV's and memorabilia.
Game was more controlled then normal, a little more defense, less 3 point shooting.
Team has a lot of talent, no question will be a top Maac team, more than that is hard to say. The team will be led by 3 Maac all stars: Crawford, Agee and Gist. Not much to say about each of them, they all looked themselves and Gist may have played the best out of the 3, and I think he was the leading scorer, but this year no stats on the scoreboards.
Washington-Very strong penetrator and plays under control although beginning of the game seemed to call his own number too much. His 3 pointer is a set shot, won't be the best 3 point shooter but I think he will be able to score a lot in the Maac and he does not turn the ball over much. Will be our starting point guard playing 32 minutes a game if he gets the waiver, heard we may hear soon.
Perez-We should not forget about him. Looked good, he will either be last starter or first player off the bench.
Ristanovic-Missing in action, though they introduced him, hopefully he was just "sick". Surprisingly he was only one not playing.
Nikolic-Didn't play much, maybe he was nursing an injury
Thiam- A well built lean athlete who plays defense, can jump, runs the floor and can shoot the 3, wasn't dominating but has talent and will get his chance to play a lot of minutes.
McNeil-At the beginning was very impressive, did not play as well in 2nd half, very good athlete, nice stroke from 3 and my favorite thing about him is he likes to go for rebounds and has the jumping ability to do it. Will either be 5th starter or one of the first off the bench. I can see him being one of the best Gaels next season.
Weiss-Didn't play much, can't say much.
Ortale-More impressive than Weiss, Football player body, plays with confidence. I can see him occasionally getting minutes.
Cashaw-expected him to run point but he didn't. Got most of his points on follows or tap ins or other garbage points. Seems to play defense and the type of player who doesn't make mistakes. He will have trouble earning too many minutes though with all these guards but I can see Cluess liking him. I didn't see his 3 ball, but his % stats from last year are impressive.
Ross-First half didn't impress me but in second half made some nice plays, 3 pointer wasn't falling that much but can see him contributing off the bench.
Van Eyk-Talented athlete who can run, jump and shoot. Will be a contributor, could even start. Has a lot of potential.
Starting 5-Very tough but I will say: Washington, Gist, Perez, Crawford, Agee. Off the bench Thiam first, Mcneil second, Ristanovic and or Van Eyk third. Ross next.
Summary-Lots of guys who can run, jump, shoot and put the ball in the basket. Once Cluess figures out his rotation and gets this team to play together this is going to be another good Cluess team. How good is what we will have to wait to see. I would guess 16-4 and 4-3, 20-7. High end 17-3, 5-2, 22-5.
agree with your summary. Some have posted it will not be the end of the world if IW doesn't get his waiver. I never agreed with that thought, and even feel stronger after today. Iona is a much better team with IW eligible.
IF IW is eligible no question he starts with Agee, Crawford and Gist. In my opinion the 5th starter comes down to either Perez and Van Eyck.

Agree with most of your assessment. Seems like a much more defensive team for maybe the first time ever under Cluess.
Cashaw - Scrappy, athletic defender. Could see him checking opponents’ best players and frustrating the hell out of them. Like what I saw.
Thiam - Crazy athlete. Played excellent defense on Agee for many possessions. Well-rounded game. Cluess will have a big impact on his offense.
Van Eyck - Was most surprised/impressed with DVE. How does he not start?
If Washington gets his waiver the last starting position is a battle between Perez, Thiam, Van Eyck, McNeil and maybe Ristanovic. I think Perez is the initial favorite, but by the end of the year one of the others will likely emerge. van Eyck and McNeil have huge potential, I think McNeil May need a year under his belt to get accustomed to Cluess and d1, Van Eyck May be more ready, ultimately Cluess’s love for 3 point shooting may determine the battle for this last spot.

Got there late, Gym looks good. Not blown away, but nice. The volleyball team was there getting ready tp play marist. Watched the Men's rugby team beat the fighting irish of Notre Dame easily. 45-15.

It’s very nice, but small. And the entrance and exits are going to be a nightmare when there’s a big crowd.

Hopefully that means the entrance and exits are going to be a nightmare every game!
Sorry for the delay, but I had to do a lot of things when I got home. I'll start by saying that the Black team defeated the Maroon team, 93-85. They also led at the half, 46-43. For the winning Black team: Gist-25 points with four three's Perez-19 points with four three's Ross-17 points with two three's Von Eyck-11 points with three three's Nicolic-two points Agee-16 points
It adds up to 90, so I'm missing three points. For the Maroon team: Thiam-19 points with three three's McNeil-13 points with two three's (Had 12 in the first half) Crawford-17 points with one three. Also 6-6 from the foul line. Washington-25 points with two three's Cashaw-8 points Ortale-2 points
That adds up to 84, so I'm missing one point.
Everyone who has posted pretty well summed up my 'take'. I do think that IF we play Agee and Thiam together, we'll be very tough on the boards. Thiam did get called for about seven fouls. Fans are going to love watching Thiam play. A human highlight reel, imo. Jelly will probably get most of the pub, because he's so exciting to watch. Hope he can play. If not, I was told that Gist would start at the point. Von Eyck (pronounced ache) will prove to be a pain for our opposition, if you'll excuse the pun. He's talented. Going back a year you can see a big difference in Asante, as he's so much more relaxed.
Three point shooting percentage wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. Coaches are confident that we'll be VG from deep, as we get more used to the court, as this was only our third time on it. Also, the rims were brand new, and we didn't get any friendly rolls.
Bottom line. There's a lot to be excited about. JMO.
Entering could be a problem unless students enter through the door nearest the garage. I was told leaving will be through either two or three doors, so that shouldn't be bad.
Tbiam and Van Eyck didn't have very good shooting stats from three last season but they both looked pretty smooth from beyond the arc, especially Van Eyck. Throw in Agee and Ristanovic as well and they are going to cause plenty if matchup problems
A few thoughts: 1- More depth than in a long time 2-We are long and athletic,Agee,Mo,and Dylan give us an imposing front line. 3-Washington will be a major force, very talented who can really get to the basket! 4-Gist picked up right where he left off in the MAAC tourney. 5-EJ will be in the running for POY,he is my pick, also has taken on role of being SR leader, going for 4 titles. 6-A Ton of experience,we will be better on the road. 7-Perez and Ross will have more than their share of good games. 8-Great job on gym, better than I had hoped for. My prediction: 5-2,15-3, 20-5 going into tourney,we win our 5th straight ang go dancing 23-5,a 14 seed.
Super, I thought that the attendance was pretty good, when you consider that there were VERY FEW students there. I was expecting that they would have ALL wanted to see how the HAC looked. And the team. As for alums, probably 3X or 4X the amount in previous years. At least that's the way I saw it.
