I just read the official version of the game on the Iona site and there was NO MENTION OF THE 52 GAME WINNING STREAK. So I guess we'll see little or no press recognition. Finding a seat at Saturday's game, vs. Rider, shouldn't be a problem.

greg, good news. Thanks. More good news. Official Iona site has been edited to include the snapped winning streak. The Ladies might even get a pre-game story before Saturday's game.

Women win a thriller. 36-33 over Monmouth. Pretty sure this was a record breaking win. Also Hammered by Rider last week. MAAC looks two be Rider & Marist with everyone else far behind.

Worst call in college basketball history reverses a shot clock violation and Iona with the ball in a tie game with 6.5 seconds left to a flagrant foul - Niagara two shots and the ball. Pathetic.

greg, I watched the game, but the sound went off on my computer near the end of the game. When the refs did a review I thought it was to see the amount of time remaining, after the shot clock violation. Now, reading the story on the official Iona site, they say that the refs went back to a foul that occurred 15 SECONDS EARLIER. And ruled it an intentional foul even though a foul was not called on the play. Never heard of such a thing.
P.S. If we lose tonight, I'm going to stop referring to the Hynes Athletic Center as the HAC, and start calling it, "OUR LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS".

Wish I could say I never saw it happen before, but I am pretty sure it happened to Iona against SPU. Agee was called for his 5th foul and at the same time the refs did a retroactive flagrant 1 against Gist. Unbelievable

I have to say that this was the worst end of game call I have ever saw. The refs initially called a shot clock violation against Niagara with 2.8 seconds left giving Iona the ball with the scored tied at 57. They looked at the replay to see if the 2.8 seconds time was right. . .and then came to the conclusion that the clock should read 6.8 seconds. One would think even better for Iona to get a good shot off. Somehow in the review process the refs came up with the foul call which put Niagara on the line where their player hit 2 free throws.
Can you imagine if these refs made this same call in a men's Big East game against the home team?
If Iona rates the refs after games. . .these refs deserve a "0" for lack of common sense and game awareness.
On a positive note Iona's women's team has a freshman #13 Lucia Becerra from Spain who has point guard skills and potential while learning to play under control. . .something that we need from the Iona men's team if improvement and consistency is possible over the rest of this year.

Old Coach, two things:
1. The foul called was on a play that happened 15 seconds before the shot clock expired. 2. The three person crew, imo, consisted of two inexperienced refs and one very experienced ref. And it seemed that the experienced ref convinced the other two refs to go along with her version of events.

So, this was not the problem - rules are clear that you can review video for flagrant fouls. happens all the time. the problem was the call itself. She was fighting through a screen and her hand came up. From every view I saw the hand barely scraped the defenders face and the defender went flying down like she got hit by a freight train. Was not even a foul, let alone a flagrant.

After the Men suffered back-to-back 23 point losses, the Women only lost to first place Marist by 17 points, today. The 11AM start, referred to as the Kids Game drew a nice crowd. Baby steps for Iona BB.

Baby steps for Iona BB. Nice thought, but Gaels ended game on 17-0 run against suns. So they were down 34 with 7 minutes left.
