Washington's taking far too much criticism here. I'm certain it will all turn around for him and the whole team. Just a bad start. One player should not catch grief for an entire team underperforming. Effort is there but not the results -- yet!
Agree 100% ncgaelfan! We’re the ones that built him up to be Superman. I’m sure we’ll be more than happy he is a Gael over the next two years...

Thoughts: 1. We needed better three point shooting and Ben Perez doesn't get a single shot. 2. Tra Arnold seemed to be on his feet for the entire game, and I didn't see another coach giving him advice. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, but TC often got advice from Jared or Eric. Still think if TC won't be back for Florida, that we need a staff assistant. I know others disagree. 3. If we don't win our next two, we should just fast forward to league play. And speaking of League play, we look to be behind Rider and Siena, and doubt that we can catch them unless TC returns. Hope I'm wrong. 4. LOVE the enthusiasm of Dylan Van Eyck. For those watching at home, could you see his efforts in trying to pump up the crowd. And then a ref seemed to ask him to let up on his efforts. He'll DEFINITELY start next game, or Tra Arnold will have to answer to me. 5. Asante shot the ball pretty well but his game is hurt when he's playing PG. JMO. 6. IW hasn't played well, but I think we have to stick with him, and hope his play improves. Cashaw is our only other pure PG, and coaches have decided he's not ready. 7. The way the PA announcer spoke about our next home game, you would have thought it was this Friday, and not a Friday, NEXT YEAR.
Jason Preston- Ohio just killed it last night with 27 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists while playing all 40 minutes. Iona tried to deny him the ball in stretches in the second half, but not consistently. He was the head of the snake, shut him down and their offense stalled in the half court. Iona needed to make him work harder on defense and offense. He should have been gassed at the end. Guarantee that Villanova and Baylor do not allow him the freedom Iona did. IMO the team needs to be more aggressive going to the rim, no free throws in the first half is an indication they did not attack. Make the other team stop you. Once you show that you can get to the rim the other team will collapse into the lane or help defend opening up others for open looks. High pick and rolls with Agee is another option. I did like the full court pressure when used except for the few times Ohio beat the press too easily. Really liked Dylan Van Eyck's energy. My feeling is that the new 3 point line is having an effect, but it is the same for everybody. This team will eventually gel, hopefully sooner rather than later. Prayers for Coach Cluess.
Seems to be the same old story. Very frustrating to watch, as we've seen spurts and glimpses of a ton of talent on this team. I understand it's early, but if this program wants to take a jump, it would be nice to get off to a great start to a season. Now, who knows, maybe this will be a team that rises to the occasion and can take down UConn and Colorado. Otherwise, we'll have to settle for a team that gels at year end to run through the MAAC and get a PIG of 16 seed. And I guess there's nothing wrong with that, but would be nice to see something more. Again, I know it's very early, but I see so much potential here - truly believe the absence of Cluess is also playing a huge part in this painfully slow start. Really hope he is healthy.
If Cluess does not return this season, or returns pretty far into the season, then IMO the entire season is a throwaway--you cannot have expectations of greatness when the head coach--especially THIS head coach--isn't there practicing with the team every day, and managing the game on gameday. Feel bad for the seniors, particularly EJ. All you can do is keep plugging away, but honestly, any expectation of anything without Tim is just foolish at this point.
And it's also backseat. Tim is a good man and I hope his health is improving. I'm disappointed like everyone else but in the grand scheme of things I don't really care about any of it as long as Tim's health is a concern.

Agreed. The health concerns have definitely dulled my excitement for the beginning of the year. I honestly would just like to hear some good news on the health front and we’ll figure out the hoops down the line.

Did anyone (posters) attend the post game reception, $1K contributors, which reportedly was held in the new Hynes Entrepennurial (Sp?) Center? Any news come out of it?

Agree with everything but I do believe if he is back by mid January he could get us into the tournament, but his health comes first

Guy F is absolutely right. TC’s health is the main issue. For those of us who get all our information from the board and are not wired in it appears TC’s health issue is pretty serious. Let’s keep him in our prayers.

Yup. And along those lines, if we're heading toward February and he's not back, it may be best to just have him skip the rest of the year.
