This is the first time since Ruland's last year that I believe the team totally gave up. Lots of one on one play. Almost no passes before shots. Token defense. Not sure who is ready to be a team leader. Based on his popularity on the city courts could it be IW? So far, it seems, the big three - Agee, EJ and Gist haven't successfully owned the leadership role. I think Agee is trying to be the vocal leader, but the team isn't responding. I was hoping IW would step up as a leader, but honestly has not shown that ability. He has been a major disappointment with his play so far. In fact this entire recruiting class, which was highly hyped, has been a disappointment so far. I defended Van Eyck some on twitter today, but he really has taken a step backwards the last few games. Obviously the loss of Cluess has made a huge difference, but none of them are playing well. Have no choice but to see what happens once MAAC play begins next weekend. A loss to SPU at home and the season can really spiral out of control with road games at Monmouth and Rider coming after. SPU is very athletic and even though they have not played a great schedule, they have played better since Holloway returned to the bench. As we have seen, coaching matters. Hopefully, Cluess returns for the SPU game, but with or without Cluess Iona should win this game playing back at home. Really the season does start next Friday night. Outside of Rider, no other MAAC teams have been that impressive, so let's see what happens when the MAAC schedule provides the team with a opportunity to play 2 games a week and get into some kind of rhythm. Was told on twitter that McNeil was at the game, but he must be hurt since he didn't play. Interesting that Cashaw played 7 minutes, so I guess the speculation that he was going to redshirt this season are not correct. My only "issue" with Arnold today was being down 40 with 10 minutes remaining didn't see the need for Agee and Crawford to play 30+ minutes. Would have liked to see more minutes for Thiam, Van Eyck, Risto and Cashaw. Not giving up on the season yet, but let's see how I feel Sunday afternoon..lol

This Iona team is really hard to watch a lot of that can be attributed poor recruiting, disastrous scheduling and the lack of having a D-1 Head coach that the players don’t respect.) Typically the MAAC is a get well antidote for Iona but this team no longer has superior talent to other teams in the conference and is currently without any confidence. It’s going to be a struggle this year and hoping Cluess comes back but more importantly I hope whatever his sickness is he will he fully recover. After all of us alumni and fans have had a magical run over the last 4 years despite not winning a NCAA tourney game.

Can’t put this on Arnold he’s the acting head coach, meaning he’s playing a part without real power. The kids need to be coached that’s why we have coaches who have real authority and credibility. TC is as good as they come he’s been our real MVP every year he’s been here. The guy is a true difference maker. You can’t take him out of the equation and expect the players to self coach. They screw up and there’s no red faced yelling TC there on the sideline during a game or at practice. The guy make demands of his players and they respond. If he comes Bach the team will improve.

Last year the team never threw in the towel. They did in Colorado. And every player took it on himself to score single handedly.

If we couldn't beat Ohio at home , couldn't beat a poor Princeton squad at a neutral site, there was no chance of beating a really good Colorado team on their home court. I know the Maac is really bad, but without Coach Cluess I don't think it will matter.

Agee and EJ are seniors and we need quality recruits to replace them. No TC means recruiting will be heavily impacted going forward and it could lead to a few down years. Hate to have a pessimistic view, but I also see it as a realistic view. I think this season could most certainly be saved if our coach returns soon.

There could also be some redemption if the players called a players-only meeting to get their heads in order. It is almost as if they dislike each other. It is not like they lack talent. They lack team play.

Didn't see the game and I didn't see on this board an explanation for Gist playing 13 minutes. Did he get hurt? Fouls early but should have played more

Another reason we miss the best coach in the maac

To epatricks’s point, with a tight group and an effective team leader, a meeting would be beneficial. Unfortunately, we lack both elements. Rickey would have been kicking ass and taking no prisoners if he were still with us...
