Well Iona made sportscenter last night...unfortunately. Looking at the last seconds of the game, SPU had all 5 of their players outside the arc, so yeah safe to say they planned to take a three. No idea why Thiam would hedge off of Edert. On the game winning drive Thiam was again caught in the middle. Instead of blocking Banks' lane to the hoop he decided to hedge out to the SPU kid outside the arc (this time not Edert), probably because everyone got on his ass about backing off Edert the previous play, creating a clear path for him to the hoop. IW also could have done a better job breaking up the play. The more I watch that last play the more ridiculous it was and makes this loss even worse. Again, not only was it bad enough Crawford and Ross were in the lane, but they didn't even box out the 6'3'' Banks who got the rebound. Will be interesting to see how the team responds tomorrow. Monmouth will be coming off a very tough loss at Siena which they let slip away. If nothing else Monmouth will play very hard. Let's hope the guys match their intensity or things can get ugly. After watching the video gist got in the lane and ran out of the way, he did the same exact thing at LaSalle

A throwaway season? At my age, I can't afford a throwaway season. So, I'll keep looking for the positives:
* Thiam looked VG. So I'm hoping to see Mo. * Play Jelly and Cashaw (split the time) at the point, and stay with them. Improved PG play won't happen overnight. * Coaches, don't dwell on the final five minutes. Remember what got the team a 17 point lead. * If we don't have TC, coach Arnold must make sure one of his assistants is keeping track of PT. Ben Perez is too good a shooter to get lost in a game. * Risto needs more PT. Don't give up on him. * Might just be me, but it seems that Agee is spending too much time on the perimeter. And doing too much ball handling. Hence terrible TO numbers. * Bad officiating for a Friday night. Fewer games, so we should be able to attract some decent refs. Looking at the boxscore, I see two of the refs were named Andy O'Brien. And that's two too many. * And we only have one day to wait until the next game.

Even giving up the huge lead this should have been a win. Should have pulled a few posters out of the crowd to manage the final minute maybe

ichoops, one of the Assistant AD's did come up to me at about the two minute mark and asked if ichoops was in the house. If so, he should report to the Iona bench. I asked around but couldn't find you. So, I'm charging you with half a loss.

Viewing the clip, it looks like there might have been a lane violation.

Viewing the clip, it looks like there might have been a lane violation. Yeah, it does look like Banks might have stepped into the lane just before the ball hit the rim. Very close, though maybe it looked that way since the Iona players never moved.

Don't know where to start, but I'll try. 1. Banks, SPU's high scorer, who had the winning basket is a frosh, and he's good. 2. Arnold's major mistake (last seven or eight minutes) was trying to milk the clock and waiting until about 10 seconds left before running the offense. Forced shots and wasted possessions. 3. PG is the major problem. Gist is not a PG and by playing him there, he's hurting himself and the team. Got to coach IW up and keep him at the point. Played off the ball a lot, tonight. If IW can't do the PG job, try Cashaw. He can't be any worse, and he might surprise. 4. Some fans wanted EJ, our HS, to get the inbound pass with six seconds left and have him fouled. Instead he was the guy inbounding the ball. Gist got the pass and was fouled immediately. Hadn't been to the line all night. 5. Shaheen is doing a nice job at SPU. 6. Crowd wasn't terrible. About 1500 (my guess). Of course, Iona Prep-Stepinac had 3300 at the WCC, tonight.
