I am probably re-stirring some controversy here, but my take is that the Iona Athletic Department lacks leadership during this critical period. I know, we all know that Coach C is monitoring a health situation. The situation is such that Coach has missed the entire season so far and who knows how much of the pre-season. Coach C has requested privacy as he continues to monitor his health. I have no problem with all of this. We have heard from Coach C, and we have heard from Coach A; but nothing from the boss. Why does this cause a complete abdication of the Athletic Department leadership? Why has the AD not stepped forward and announced a plan to deal with the situation while respecting the privacy of the Cluess family. Or at least, he could assure people that he is up to the task of dealing with the crisis. He needs to get out front. For example: “We are in constant touch with the Cluess family, and, like him, are optimistic for his complete recovery. In the meantime, we fully appreciate the difficult burden we have asked Coach Arnold to assume. Coach Arnold has only one year of coaching experience at the DI level; and we have now asked him to fill the shoes of an Iona legend.” And so it goes! And what about the players that came to Iona to play for Cluess? And what about “Gael Nation”? What about the Arrigoni investment? The Athletic Department has left all of these people swinging in the wind. I think some reassurance from the AD that he has a plan that starts with the recovery of Coach C. The AD seems to me to be acting like the rest of us – hoping for the best and fearing for the worst. “Are you (we) in good hands?”

So you want the AD to call a press conference to state the obvious?

For those who have recruiting concerns, I was told by a member of the staff that our current recruiting is pressing ahead at the same pace as it usually does... and since we are completely in the dark as always, I’m very confident with that.

Also heard some things re recruiting last night. Although I agree it's an important recruiting year, the effort is there. Same with the schedule. The program is NOT in neutral due to Cluess being absent.

Unfortunately, I believe Tim Cluess is the driving force of the Iona basketball program and unless he has his hand in the recruiting and schedules, which under the circumstances don’t see how he could, not as optimistic.

Guy, I'm guessing that there was a GC reception, last night, and that you attended. If so, is it just for GC members who have donated $1K or more? And, about how many attended? Thanks.

So you want the AD to call a press conference to state the obvious? What is the obvious? I thought Coach Cluess was eloquent explaining his circumstances. I don’t believe the AD needs to or is responsible to add any additional commentary. We need to respect our coaches privacy and trust that things will work out.

And reference to SLG's post. I would think that our AD could come out with an update on TC's health, which might also, include a target for his return. This month, season, tourney or next year. If the answer is that the AD just doesn't know, then I doubt TC will be back in January. Also, don't think it would be an invasion pf privacy. JMO.

I do REALLY hope that they have a behind the scenes plan, a contingency plan, a Contingency plan B, a Contingency plan C..etc. I think its in everybodys interest to keep our plans in the dark, especially some of the more tougher decisions based on the ever changing scenarios that we may face. I do agree that I hope there is work going on behind the scenes.

OK SLG - Matt just issued a statement - here it is - “We are in constant touch with the Cluess family, and, like him, are optimistic for his complete recovery. In the meantime, we fully appreciate the difficult burden we have asked Coach Arnold to assume. Coach Arnold has only one year of coaching experience at the DI level; and we have now asked him to fill the shoes of an Iona legend.”
Everybody happy now?
