Where are this team's Machado Glover Momo Armand AJ Laury and JWash?
OK, you’re taking about 8 years worth of talent and bunching it into one group. Grasso was a phenomenal recruiter, not taking that away from him. Machado was Willard’s guy.
Agee is every bit as good as Washington.
Jelly has played all of 10 games in an Iona uniform with a coach that he didn’t sign up to play for. Can we give him a bit more time before we call him a bust? He was every bit as heralded a recruit as Momo was when we landed him.
Glover, Armand, AJ and DL3 were all recruited in the first two seasons under Cluess. They were legendary players, but the back end of Grasso’s time with Iona’s produced the same level of quality recruits that the past two seasons have under the new staff. JMO.
I was all in on IW and was happy his waiver was approved. Thought he would step right in and at the very least come close to the great A/TO ratio he had at Minnesota. At this point I agree with others at this point and just give him the keys to the team and hope things work out. Having said that can't compare him to the hype of Momo Jones as a recruit. Momo came as a starter and 2nd leading scorer from a program that reached the elite 8. Biggest concern with recruiting since Grasso left is that Iona was always linked to transfers, especially grad transfers. That's just not the case lately. Last couple years Grasso was here he recruited edogi, Rountree, Lewis and severe. Not just a coincidence not one grad transfer since he left.
another board member mentioned to me he would liked to have seen if Mike Glover would have been interested in joining the staff. AAU programs would feed kids to Iona and Glover. That's how much respect they have for him.

Jordan Washington was a nearly unstoppable force inside. Agee is a talented player with a nice game, but he’s not even close to having the positive impact that JW had for Iona.

Valid points. I was never a big fan of the done and one grad transfer model, but hard to argue with the success. Grasso was a stud recruiter, but the last 2-3 years before he left we did not recruit at the same level as the first few years IMO. Can’t remember all the names, but the last few years we recruited players like Isaiah Still, Gist, Griffin, Edogi. Still loads of talent, but nowhere near the level of AJ, Armand, DL3 and the crop from the first half of the TC era. IMO our current recruiting efforts are consistent with the same caliber of players that Grasso was getting us in the final years before he left for Bryant.

Couldn’t disagree more. JW was a force inside, but couldn’t stay on the floor and gave us next to nothing on defense. He was an 18 minute per game player who averaged 16 and 8. Meanwhile Agee is a 30 minute per game player with the same production on offense and gives us far more contributions in other areas of the game IMO.

I think a number of us are frustrated that Jelly has not had the self discipline to lead the team as our point guard (regardless of whether Arnold or Cluess are coaching). As others have mentioned, his body language (especially the second half against St. Peter’s) was puzzling. Looked disinterested and indifferent.
I’m not ready to give up on him but at some point we need to see results.

The one big surprise, and I can't figure out the reason, is that over this great run of 4 straight MAAC championships we never saw a "bump" in recruiting. Kind of funny having this conversation over recruiting and concerns, yet Iona has won the last 4 MAAC championships. I guess it validates how great a coach Iona has in Cluess.

How about we schedule more than 7 damn non-conference games and give him a chance to actually get into a rhythm and learn his teammates if he’s going to lead the offense? He has no coach and he has a schedule that has made it nearly impossible for him to adjust. And don’t forget, up until about 10 days before the season started he didn’t even know whether he’d be eligible or not (thank you NCAA).

That is true and he is our only point guard. Gist is a 2, Cashaw is not ready at this level and we have not had enough of a sample size from McNeil to see if he could platoon at the point. The whole situation is magnified based on these circumstances. Personally, I fell into the trap of expecting more from him, even though we are only nine games in.
IW came from a league that basically plays a half court offense. He came to Iona expecting a Cluess run, run and run offense with guys that could shoot the three. Instead he got no Cluess nor his run offense. Our seniors are better at turning over the ball than hitting threes.

I just gave you a handful of guys. I can give you another 15 without effort.
You have vastly overrated the talent on this team for months. Repeatedly going all in rather than just admitting you were wrong is making you look bad out here.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.
I never understood the group obsession everyone has with Risto. Should he play more? Sure. But he's not a game changer.
A streaky three point shooter who could rattle off a number in a row, a good free throw shooter and an adequate rebounder.
We could use all of those attributes now.
I'm arguably his biggest fan. He's a 6'10" kid that is actually athletic enough to play in the Cluess system. Can knock down shots from the perimeter and is a adequate defensive player who was disruptive at the top of the zone as well as quick enough to defend the wings, able to block shots Because of his length. It appeared that he started to "get it" towards the end of last season. He played great against North Carolina. He battled and boxed out the Carolina bigs. Really hoped he would build off that game and take the sophomore jump this season, but just hasn't happened. Don't know who's a bigger mystery, Ristanovic or Perez.
