Rider coming off a throttling doesn't bode well for us.

I'll go out on a limb, way, way out, and say that IW returns and plays his best game as a Gael.

Might be a good game to get Niko 5 fouls and put Rider on the line. Rider was brutal at the charity stripe last year

Game notes say Arnold coaching (as we highly expected) and McNeil has disappeared from the back pages with information on each player, yet he still is on the roster. Probably means he is gone.

I remember in another thread, a knowledgeable poster (05 maybe) said McNeil would potentially be Iona's best player. What happened?

If this is the case, I'm pissed off now. Every player on the team is struggling and he deserves an opportunity to play. If he plays bad, you put him back on the bench but at least give him a shot. I hope he's still around as I liked his game a lot and feel like he didn't get a fair opportunity to showcase it.

I never understood the gripes about players like Risto and McNeil and minutes. We see a smattering of them and feel like they should be out there, but the coaches--and that includes Tim, who I'm sure is seeing practice videos and is getting extensive feedback--are seeing these kids every day in practice. I understand we've seen flashes of potential from Risto in games, but if these guys stink at practice every day, fail to pick up defensive concepts, lack consistent effort, etc, they're not going to stick around. The point is, we're not there every day, we don't know what these kids are doing at practice. But clearly it isn't enough. And like I said, I can guarantee you Cluess is at least seeing videos of practices and is weighing in. Gotta trust his judgment.
I'll also counter a few of the not-so-positive opinions re Cashaw the other day. I liked what I saw--it was his first time out there, he wasn't going to look like a superstar. If IW is back Cashaw may end up back on the end of the bench, but I don't think he did anything wrong the other day, given that it was his first appearance.
It's a long way to go, as the first post in this thread notes. Kinda wish we weren't playing literally the toughest game on the rest of our schedule this next game--we needed something easier here, and at home, to get things right. That's coming Sunday, hopefully. The only thing I DO know, though, is that under Cluess we have seen the rotation shrink to just 7-8 guys by March most seasons, with no more than a smattering of another body here and there based on need. I don't think you're going to see a ton of Risto or Nik or Cashaw and certainly not McNeil the rest of the way. It's pretty clear our top 8 are set, and it won't change. The question is whether things will "click" for this group as they did last year. Many of us are assuming no, because of Tim's absence. It's a fair assumption only because Tim is Tim and not just some random head coach, and it's not a slight on Arnold.
And speaking of Arnold, I will continue to be protective of him out here. He was NOT hired to be our head coach, and he is in a spot NO ONE expected or wanted, including him. He's doing the best he can--and again, if he were fully qualified to run a D1 program, he'd already be doing it, he wouldn't be here under Tim. Expecting us to just keep rolling along and seeing all our transfers and JUCOs mold together into something beautiful, which Tim has quite frankly perfected, is quite simply unfair, even in a not-as-bad-as-last-year-but-still-crappy MAAC.
All we can hope is that everyone just keeps battling, and find ways to improve--with or without Tim. And whatever happens in March happens. I will not be devastated if this year continues to be a disaster and we go quietly in March. It's just not fair to expect the same results when the biggest factor in our program over the past decade is absent. That's what I mean when I keep saying it's a throwaway season. It's just not reflective of what we are or what we'll be moving forward. Yes, I feel bad for Crawford and (less so) for the other seniors, but it is what it is.

If we have any chance in this game we need to take care of the ball much better, especially Agee. Also, I think Tajuan needs to establish himself down low. Something he has done well at times this season even against UConn in the 1st half. To do this effectively he needs to Limit the amount of times he puts the ball on the floor and the team needs to give him good spacing.
Hope the team finds a way to win this game as I feel it could be a huge confidence booster, and maybe get the season going in the right direction.

Agee and Crawford need to identify the double teams better both are getting easily stripped when trying to back down or take their guy to the hoop. Thats like basic bball shit, i dont get it.
