Quick question- Who has coached basketball at the high school level or higher? Being on the outside we have no idea what is going on inside the program. Watching a few practices will reveal very little. We are talking about a group of young men and a coaching staff dealing with the reality that their head coach is not there to provide the leadership they all expected. We cannot understand the level of disruption this creates. They have likely never encountered a situation like this and each of them are going to react differently to the circumstance and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Anyone have a family member or boss become seriously injured or sick? How did the dynamics change within the family or organization? The reality is that things become much more complicated as everyone tries to adjust to the new "normal". Some handle disruptions quite well, while others do not. The individual who shows no effect on their mood, performance or thought processes is rare. Let's take a step back and not pile on. This group may never come together and play with consistency due to the disruption and challenge of no Coach Cluess. Cut them some slack and support the program. Words of encouragement and support will go farther than the critique. Remember they are "young" men and they deserve support through this challenging time. GO GAELS! High School

Not a coach, but if Agee has 52 field goals and 53 turnovers, I know we cant win like that.

Just one substitution complaint. After the 12 seconds T/O, imo, we should have taken Washington (four fouls) and EJ (not quick enough) out and put in Cashaw, Van Eyck or Gist to give a foul. Shows me that the staff wasn't thinking. Assuming we gave the foul, then bring Jelly and EJ back in. Not very complicated. You know you're having a BAD DAY when you make a suggestion (see above) and 1997 likes it. But gives credit to 1970, who, naturally, accepts the credit. i went to coaching 101

ic59, sorry fantasy basketball does not count. I asked the question as coaching requires patience and acceptance that things will go wrong outside of your control. Very easy to criticize from the stands and a natural reaction from those who care about the program. Solutions are almost never easy fixes. I wish they were. I have no recommendations, just sympathy having been there. I do know that adaptability and positivity are key to coaching through tough stretches like this. Unfortunately confidence can be easily lost by individuals or a group and very hard to recover. My heart breaks for this team and coaches as I know they want to play well and do not want to lose. Sometimes the fear of failure creates hesitation/indecisiveness that just further feeds the bad play. A tough cycle to break. Perseverance and Team focus are key. Sending positive thoughts that they can find their way to overcome the current challenges.

ic59, you wouldn't be Jerry Jones by the way? Or just a wannabe?

ic59, you wouldn't be Jerry Jones by the way? Or just a wannabe? I thought exposing our identities was against board rules!

We made a point of Monmouth messing up with 6s and no timeout off the inbounds. Iona had 12s and came out of a huddle. I dont need to be a high school or college coach or player to know what needs to be done in obvious situations like foul.. or DONT let their on fire shooter attempt a 3 which doomed Iona 2x this season. Players and Coaches are simply failing basic basketball right now.
