Iona got a commitment from 6'9" forward Robert Brown from New Mexico State. I guess he will enroll for the 2nd semester, and be eligible for the 2nd semester next year. Pretty safe to say Iona will apply for a waiver so he can play at the start of next year. Brown didn't play or produce much his 2 years at New Mexico State so the jury is still out on the impact he will have.

Doing some research while you all get your beauty sleep. Going in New Mexico State message board, I was reminded that's where assistant coach Mailhot us from. The reports on Brown are he is a athletic low post player. Most liked his potential but felt he was behind 2 other bigs so his PT in the future was going to be limited. Everyone posted he's a great kid.
Also of interest is there was a post that Rashaun Agee was no longer listed in the school directory and there was speculation he was no longer in the program. I think he was sitting as a academic redshirt. If his grades are in order then I hope coach Mailhot can get him to Iona. He would be a impact recruit.

sharkey, thanks, I needed that. Reminds me of a former teacher at Iona in the Accounting Department, Brother Robert Brown. Kids called him Bobby Brown. He was a VG teacher, but a tough marker. Hope our new recruit brings some of that Brown toughness (thinking of Dave). Soon we'll find out."What can Brown do for you?".

Coming out of high school he had offers from SMU, Creighton and Teas- Arlington. Had looks from Michigan, Purdue and Oregon. 2017-18: Redshirted. 2018-19: Saw action in eight games before sitting out with a season-ending shoulder surgery

Perhaps a Kensmil type situation where all he needed was an opportunity. Kensmil thriving at Steven F Austin.

Brown has been in college for 3 years. He redshirt his freshman year. Played 8 games his RFR season before missing the end of the season due to shoulder surgery. This season, his 3rd, he played 6 games before transferring. Normally a kid has 5 years to play 4. Can a player apply for a medical redshirt after already sitting a redshirt season? There have been cases where players have been granted a 6th year. I am guessing he gets a waiver to play right away next season and he gets 2 full years at Iona. I mentioned Rashaun Agee and the possibility he is no longer enrolled at New Mexico State. The article below says he was never on scholarship, so he would most likely be eligible right away next season. Will be interesting to see if Iona gets involved with him. www.lcsun-news.com/story/sports/college/nmsu/2019/09/25/nmsu-mens-basketball-roster-breakdown/2431719001/

He's a 6'9'' athletic post player well worth taking a shot on. Like I posted in another thread, I am convinced Iona is looking at a '20 recruiting class of 7-9 kids. That's a huge class, and being realistic almost impossible to "hit" on all of them. So far Robert Brown and Darreus Brown. Robert Brown will probably be on campus very soon and practicing with the team. Darreus Brown is no longer on his JUCO team, so not sure what his status is. To be honest, him leaving both JUCO programs he was at is a bit concerning.
