Coach is going to play guys he can win however his talent level of recruit is different from what coach Cluess brought in. Thats not a knock on Cluess he won and didn't have the the cache to bring in the talent Pitino is bringing here. Cluess couldn't sit down with a high major recruit and talk about playing at Iona like RP can. So it tells you how successful coach Cluess was. As far as if Ross and Gist play it will depend on how they practice, If they perform they will play. RP isn't going to tell a kid your not going to play before seeing him practice and if they perform better then the recruits brought in they will see major minutes

Like everyone else, when it comes to playing time one name that I haven't seen is Colton Cashaw. And that is probably based on his lack of production when he was on the court last season. Remember he was recruited by TC but not coached by him. Now, it's possible that he's just not talented enough, but I'm interested to see what a HOF coach can do with him. Posters, myself included, liked his defense, and that is an area that RP stresses.

He did not put up numbers offensively but I thought he was very steady. He was never a big scorer in JUCO but he shot 52.7% from the floor and 48.3% from beyond the arc. Those numbers are a far cry from the 12.5% and 0% that he put up last season, so I would attribute the drop off to the coaching and style of play. I am not going to base much on what I saw last season as it was a complete shitshow.

Gist and Ross would have been granted waivers under the new "guidelines" the NCAA put into place last summer, what guidelines?

No doubt that this hurts Iona more since we have so many new players. Of course having a HOF coach hurts the other teams more. Question is which more is more?

The rule might actually help. It gives all our foreigners a chance to get back, other teams could have started before us while our guys try to get cleared to come back to Iona

Why would having a HOF coach hurt a team? greg, in case your question was real. If you have star players and the other team doesn't have star players, that hurts the other team when you play them. Unless you decide not to use your star players when you play them to make the game more fair. And if your question was just greg being greg, excuse the post.

The more I think about it, the more I think it will come down to how certain guys play with each other in terms of minutes. For example, who does Gist play better with, out of, say, Chavez and Myers? Who does Van Eyck play better with out of, say, Shema and Brown? With the shortened time together, Pitino will likely need to spend the entire OOC figuring out the best combinations of players--but I still think we're going 10 deep, at least.

It probably doesn't matter who starts, but rather who plays. I do feel pretty certain that Chavez, Jeanlouis and Gist will finish the year in the Top Six when it comes to total minutes played.
