We have hit February usually the time a Cluess team starts to peak but this team is going down hill fast.
Some thoughts on individuals:
Agee-Having a bad year, Tries to do too much and spends too much of the game yelling at everyone. Has to stop backing in and trying to dribble by people in traffic. He's shooting 40% from 3 but refuses to take the open 3. Need to take it when he has these opportunities. When his feet are set he can shoot. Has to stop making dumb fouls and keep himself on the court and limit turnovers when he plays, basically go back to playing like last year.
Crawford-Seems slower on D (back?) and rarely rebounds without Cluess there to constantly remind him. Over his career he has become a poor 3 point shooter, I think the extra distance hurts his line drive shot. Can still score driving to the basket
Washington-since the beginning of the year has played much better. His 3 point shot has improved and the offense flows well when he has the balls in his hands. However he needs try to penetrate more and either kick it out, drop it off, or go to the basket when there is an opening. Rebounds and plays decent D. I think he will be up for Sunday playing near his home.
Gist-Siena beat reporter says he has a broken foot, doubt we will see him again. Mostly had a bad season, but he did last year until around now when he came on. Team has no chance in Maac tourney without his ability to get hot from 3.
Ross-A streak shooter and has a nose for the ball and good basketball smarts, but best being a top player off the bench, not a starter.
Thiam - Basically just a tall 3 point shooter, who only shoots 34% from 3.
Van Eyck-Hustles and bring energy, but can't play d without fouling and gets banged up often. His 3 point shot is very inconsistent and a big disappointment. Can't shoot free throws either.
Perez- Never saw someone lose their ability to shoot from one year to the next. Feel like something must be ailing him or maybe his vision has got worse? He hustles and is active on d, but if he can't shoot he's not worth playing.
Ristanovic-Looks very unhappy. Got in an argument with Arnold last night and never played again. I believe Eaton recruited him and maybe him leaving is a factor. When he has gotten minutes has not shown he deserves more.
Nikolic-Brings tons of energy and hustle and is big to help push others around, but that is where it ends.
Cashaw-Plays d, is smart, handles the ball well but can't score and that is a bad thing in a Cluess offense.
Weiss-How can the kid not be given a few minutes of action in a game like last night? Why even let him on the team then, though looks like we need bodies in practice with Gist, McNeil and Ortale gone.
McNeil-appears gone for good, even though has been seen in stand. Was very athletic but looked lost in the few minutes he got.
Arnold-dealt a very bad hand but has made it worse. Cluess picked him, but you wonder if he would have now after seeing how the team responds to him. Mailhot seems like he deserves the shot now, but doubt that will happen.
Cluess-Miss him badly and hope he gets well but he has to take some blame for the horrible schedule and bad recruiting year. I finally heard bits and pieces last night of what is wrong with him, and I'm sure others know but I'm not being the first to post it. My opinion is Iona should make a clearer statement on his health. At this point I don't think keeping it a secret helps. Sounds like we won't see him this year.
I expect an early Maac tourney exit. Maybe seniors Crawford and Agee can lead them to a Pig win, but just don't think the team has enough to get to the semis.
This is a huge recruiting year, Iona needs a very good class, but considering the current situation is that even possible? Need some very good players to want to come based on how many minutes they can get immediately.

Agree with everything you posted.
Agee-noticed last night that he is now often off balance, on the move, when passing the ball which combined with being stripped trying to dribble drive to the hoop has led to all of these turnovers. Even some of his shots are taken off balance. Completely different player from beginning of season.
Van Eyck-showed promise early in season with his energy and making a impact on defense with some steals and blocks as well as being disruptive. Talking to those close to him the loss of Cluess has had a huge impact on him.
Risto-I have been his biggest fan but what I saw last night really surprised me. Will be shocked if he's back next season. Disappointing because as a RFR last year he showed signs he was starting to "get it". He played great and without fear against North Carolina. No reason to think he wouldn't improve this year as a sophomore but hasn't happened.
Gist-hope he recovers. I heard the broken foot comment, yet Arnold said after the game he might be back in a week or two. Then again he also said a few weeks ago Cluess would be back soon. Have no idea if Gist returns.
Looking at who probably returns, IW is the only high level MAAC starter. Huge recruiting cycle coming up.

Obviously the loss of coach Cluess has been huge but I think we really miss McGill’s on court leadership.

I agree with all of that, nothing sugar-coated there.
90% of me feels that Coach Cluess should just scratch the rest of the season and come out fresh next Fall. There’s still that lingering 10% that hopes for that “Willis Reed” moment where he leads a 12-18 PIG team to take the MAAC, win the tourney PIG game in Dayton and give a #1 seed all they can handle. 😃. The longest of long shots.

Java—love your optimism. I would ask you to share what you’re “enjoying.” 😉
As with Most games this year if you bet it seems crazy not to bet against Iona. You know there is someone out there who has made a lot of money riding this point spread losing streak and betting against Iona every game.
Hard to see how Iona covers. At the very least Manhattan will play 11 guys and play pressure defense the entire game. They pressure and double the ball the entire defensive possession. Crawford is still dealing with back issues, don't understand why Arnold played him the last 7 minutes down 30. Not sure why he played IW 39 minutes and Agee could really struggle with turnovers against that pressure.
