Griffs have eliminated Gaels on three previous occasions in the MAAC tournament - 1993, 1996 and 2008. Full record: gogriffs.com/sports/mens-basketball/opponent-history/iona-college/91My favorite was the 2001 championship game played during a blizzard in Buffalo--I don't think it stopped snowing for the entire tournament. Think we went into that tournament on a 3 game losing streak.

Lots will come down to the Canisius game. Not overlooking the Griffs in any way at all — in fact we could easily lose this game — but if somehow we can skate by them without having to play the starters for 35 mins a piece, you have to like our chances going into the SPU game with a starting five that is not totally gassed from the previous night. If we get past SPU - and that’s a huge “if” - we essentially assume the role of the 2 seed and get the benefit of the extra day off. One game at a time. Survive and advance! My gut tells me that this will be a nut cutter. It just feels like a typical MAAC tourney grinder game. I do agree that we will need one game to skate by in order to somewhat preserve our starters legs.

Completely disagree with #1.
MAAC did a nice job moving Friday night games back to 9 PM once the mainstream leagues started competing in the 7 PM slot.
#3 is spot on.

#3! , 2 is a hard to do and 1 I don’t agree with. #3 is the one that burns my ass. Why couldn’t they just rotate the MAAC tourney between the “nice” gyms in the conference. Siena, Quinny, Monmouth, and Fairfield (the one off campus) all have nice facilities. SMH

The biggest issue was Siena having such a big advantage by having the tournament 3 straight years on their home court. If AC fails I rather see the MAAC just go to the higher seeds hosting home games instead of rotating between programs. I firmly believe a program should never host a tourney game unless they earned it.

E.J. is such a class act guy. I'd like to see him be the 2nd Gael to go to The Dance 4 years in a row.
Once game at a time.
Go Gaels!!!

Nice story by Kussoy despite a few minor errors. In a separate blurb in today’s post Braziller rips Maac for giving up Monday spot ( rightfully so).
